So if the practice of smoking is older than the Bible, WHY wasn't it listed as a sin in the Bible since Jehovah's Witnesses consider it a sin? Surely it was popular to do back then right?

Good point. The Watchtower say that it wasn't mentioned in the bible because people didn't start to abuse it until the Americas were discovered. Another piece of Watchtower spin, to justify their stance that the bible is infallible.

It wasn't mentioned in the Bible because at the time no one in the Middle East, Asia, Africe, or Europe had any idea there was such a thing as tobacco.

The Wikipedia entry mentions Tobacco use in the Americas dating back thousands of years.

The comment still stands - the Bible writers didn't mention it because they didn't know about it.

The Bible doesn't mention cocaine, corn, pumpkins, or bison either, all of which were in existence then - in the Americas.

About frankincense, a gift from the astrologers of the East, brought to the parents of Jesus. Interesting!

As of May 2008 FASEB Journal announced that Johns Hopkins University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have determined that frankincense smoke is a psychoactive drug that relieves depression and anxiety in mice. [ 8 ] The researchers found that the chemical compound incensole acetate [ 9 ] is responsible for the effects. [ 8 ]

Damned mice. The jews should have stoned them. Oh, wait. They already were. Or, did mice only start smoking frankiesense recently. Prolly a 60's thing.
