    The continuing evolution of religion...

As people change and tastes change and values change, religion learns to find a way to tap into what pleases people and then try to attract followers to their message (i.e. give money)

Minstrels or ministers? It's a carnival show. Just like Penecostal holy rollers or Appalachian Pentecostal snake handlers. Same old, same old

"One Tuesday morning, I heard the voice of Jesus saying, 'C'mon unto me and rest," Smith shouts as he punctuates his delivery with a series of guttural gasps and shrieks backed up by an organist's riffs. "But can I tell you what I did? I came to Jesus, just as I was. And I found in him joy in sorrow. Somebody shout yes. Yeessssss!"

    Preach brother!

You know they have the Hammond organ in heaven :)

I didn't know that that style of preaching was called "whooping." I've always called it "hollerin." I hate it. When I see them on TV my head starts hurting immediately. Coming from the hall, I just could not get used to all that clowning and performing. To me it seemed that they did all the hollering to cover up the fact that they weren't saying anything of substance. I just really hate that singsong way of speaking. At the other end of the spectrum, I went to a Catholic funeral, and the priest spoke in a monotone, no inflection at all. That was horrible.

I'll never forget that TD Jakes sermon regarding the bags we can carry around. As he did so he walked around the stage loaded up with all kinds of bags and suitcases, each labelled with a particular word on them.

Couldn't see it in YouTubeland but if anyone has a link I'd sure like to see it again some time.

    Blessings,

    Stephen

I'll ask my oldest daughter, Stephen.

I'm sure she knows where it can be found.

She likes T.D., has all his books.
