," These CO's like Elders to do their dirty work. So if we alert the sister about this brother and she gets upset, who will she be upset with? Us, and guess where the CO will be? At his new assignment never to be seen again. If he wants this sister warned about this brother, he needs to do it himself."

Wow, an elder (and body of elders) who actually stood up to a CO, and a very interesting comment on his part.

Yes, my dad rang my ex's BOE and was told 'I wouldn't let my daughters marry him'.

We had an elder that said exactly that to a friend of mine. Meanwhile, his own daughter's husband got reproved for looking at porn at work.

I was able to check out my own JW babes as a prospective marriage mate - thank you very much ! LOL ! Even as a teenager I didn't trust the elders opinions anyway. They probably would have hooked me up with some JW gal who thought sex was evil and the definition of foreplay was to place as many magazines as you could in a 2 hour field service session on Saturday morning. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

My in-laws called bethel to check and see if I'd actually been there. Strangely enough, even though I was a total dysfunctional bethelite, I got a good report. Strange. They didn't like me when I was there, but they gave me great reviews to get married.

I remember a BOE who had a 7:00 start time for their School & Service Mtng. They absolutely refused to change it for the CO visit. Multiple COs tried getting them to change it for the CO visit and they wouldn't. I wasn't on the BOE so I don't know the particulars but I was always amazed that they got away with it.

My ex was advised to stay away from me because I was just a new JW and had a "worldly" past.

To a JW girl, that would be like waving a red flag to a bull.

I had been asked by a couple of different sisters about prospective mates in my KH. I told them they need to learn for themselves and really get to know these brothers and not be in a hurry. One sister, who was a friend of mine, asked about my then best friend. I told her that he has "quirks" and she needed to find them out for herself and then decide. She asked what those quirks were. I told her: Be careful. (I knew he tended to the male chauvenistic pig side, this was my long time friend.) She asked him out. They dated, got married. She found out he was a MCP. They have been seperated for 8 years now. I told her to find out. He didnt hide his bad qualities well. She put on blinders.

In my own case, I didnt ask for the permission or opinion of the BOE, but the PO did write a letter to my ex-fiancee's BOE in India. Her (or more likely her MS brother in the US) request. The PO provided a good report. Her BOE sent one on her to me. I checked out her backstory (which was so wack it needed verifying) with Service Dept. in India. They verified anything I asked (but did not volunteer additional details). Of course, anything coming out of those BOE's in India was suspect. Her first husband was "Verified" by his BOE....only to find out after they got married that her husband was inactive and...more importantly, physically, emotionally, and sexually abusive. Turns out her MIL had bribed the BOE with alcoholic gifts. She was stuck for a few years in a bad marriage to a "Verified" Brotherâ„¢. As you all know.... I missed the bullet on that one.

I am now engaged to an intelligent, funny, beautiful decidedly NON JW woman now.

When I started dating my wife, an elder tried to convince me not to go through with it. His reasons? She was only baptized for a year, and her field service hours weren't at the level of the national average. Well we've been happily married for 12 years now,(even happier since we both realized the WTS is full of crap)

The other girl I was interested in at the time, who the same elder was encouraging me to pursue, is now serving in Africa with her husband.....the poor bastard. Talk about forks in the road of life huh!!!
