I do believe that the mods are on the lookout for people that break the rules. Such rules are listed at the bottom of the board, and includes provisions for dealing with those who break the rules. Posts may be edited, locked, or deleted if they are deemed unacceptable, at their own discretion. People that repeatedly break the rules may be prevented from posting (i.e., banned). This means that one bad post is more likely to get you a warning, or possibly a restriction on your account (and others will not know about either), depending on the infraction.
I will not second guess the administration--they have the freedom to ban; along with that, they have the freedom to not ban. I came on this board knowing what the rules are, and with the expectation that a few will break them. And no, this doesn't mean I will go around blowing people in for every swear word (that is up to the mods to determine whether or not they are acceptable in the context and under the circumstances, or not). What happens when you get someone that breaks a major rule (trolls, spam bots, people that post nothing but porn) and you make a big deal out of it, most of the time they got what they were seeking. Rather, ignoring potentially offensive threads and PM'ing the mods about it is most likely to deprive them of the attention they are seeking.
Now, if you really want to see strictness in moderating, I recommend looking at other types of forums. I have checked the rules on Pokemon forums--and usually there is zero tolerance for swearing, consecutive posting, going under minimum character limits (each post must have at least a certain number of characters), and the like. I saw a forum about electric shaving, and one of the things you could get banned for was posting about blade shaving! Or, if you really hate things like that, you could start your own forum and you get to make your own rules and enforce them as you see fit.

Dear BG, peace to you! I've been coming here a LONG time, dear one, and I'd have to say I think not. Actually, my observation is that things pretty much go in cycles. Much like... well... life. This particular subject seems to come up at least 1-2 (okay, maybe more) a year. Someone goes a bit "off" with the... ummmm... unsavory stuff... or some "crasher" posts some such stuff. I personally think it's a mean to get attention... in whatever form... and I get that: the WTBTS so stifles personal attention (unless, of course, you're a member of the GB... or the sidekick "wolf" pack... a pioneer (and, oh Lordy, don't be a "special" one... been at "Bethel" - which, according to the Bible is a center of false worship - for umpteenth years... and the other usual sundry things that make one "worthy").
It's hardly ever any serious topics and the people here act like 3rd graders.
I would say that I have found that to be true primarily of the "friends" forum but not necessarily the others. But it seems to me that that is to be expected: the "friends" area is where, well, pretty much any subject is ripe for discussion. My personal experience is that my Lord directs me primarily to the "friends" area for this very reason: I am to go where he would go most often. And that would rarely be the "Bible Research & Study Articles" or "Beliefs, Doctrines, & Practices" rooms. Occasionally, yes, but not primarily.
And what's wrong with 3rd graders??? Some of the smartest people I know are in third grade (well, okay, 5th...).

To you, perhaps, yes. And that's okay. It still has some use for others, though, right?

I understand what you're saying but I think it's the "banning" part that I have a problem with. There were... and are... some here who would have me banned. Not only do they not think me serious, but they consider me on par with, well, even kindergartners at time. While I admit I am not the brightest crayon in the box, I DO have all of my colors... all 64 (although, given the age of techonology that we now live in, could be that the "box" isn't enough anymore and one must now "play" with the "chest"... I hear there's even a BUCKET out there somewhere...). I just don't always "color between the lines." And THAT should be okay, too!
I'm just saying... there is SO much more in the world that should offend you. For example, as dear booby pointed out, "an African woman holding her child, lying up against a fence, fly's buzzing about and they are both near starvation." Indeed, ANY woman in such a situation. THAT... should really tick you off.
But people posting porn... or acting childish... dear one, THIS life is just WAY too short. I promise you.
Again, I bid you peace. Truly. Real peace... so that trivial "stuff" like this doesn't bother you so much.
