Suppose you saw a piece of candy lying in the gutter. Would you pick up that candy and eat it? Of course not! That candy is unclean. Like that candy, holidays may seem sweet, but they have been picked up from unclean places. To take a stand for true worship, we need to have a viewpoint like that of the prophet Isaiah, who told true worshipers: “Touch nothing unclean.”—Isaiah 52:11.

What does the Bible Really Teach? chapter 16, par 12

I was just thinking about this illustration last night , and it was discussed on another thread!

I just had an interesting conversation with a family member regarding Russell - the symbols, Pyramidology, and how he arrived at 1914, etc....

Since the 1914 date is the cornerstone of JW beliefs, couldnt you use the above illustration to show the "unclean" origins of the religion??

Would you rather pick up a candy from the fresh gutter, or from the month-old, dried gutter? Christmas is wrong because 2000 years ago some celebrated a pagan god around that day, but 1914 is ok, even though just over 100 years ago someone came to that date using pyramidology and numerology.

    No!

They pretend they have cleaned it up since then.

They were selected by Jesus in 1919 and that proves it.... and don't you forget it.

Suppose you look at your calendar and you see that days of the week are named after pagan Gods! Should you USE that calendar knowing it

is tainted with demon-inspired false religion?

If you are going to start REMOVING every little bit of "nasty" from daily life you will have to be naked in a tent because EVERYTHING has connections to something pagan and religious.

Preoccupation with superficial cleanliness is a symptom of a mental disorder! Superstitious people such as Jehovah's Witnesses cherry pick what they are going to get upset about and conveniently ignore everything else!

If their argument was sound they would apply it to everything.

    Sunday -- Sun's day
    Monday -- Moon's day
    Tuesday -- Tiu's day
    Wednesday -- Woden's day
    Thursday -- Thor's day
    Friday -- Freya's day
    Saturday -- Saturn's day

    The Naming of the Days

The Greeks named the days week after the sun, the moon and the five known planets, which were in turn named after the gods Ares, Hermes, Zeus, Aphrodite, and Cronus. The Greeks called the days of the week the Theon hemerai "days of the Gods". The Romans substituted their equivalent gods for the Greek gods, Mars, Mercury, Jove (Jupiter), Venus, and Saturn. (The two pantheons are very similar.) The Germanic peoples generally substituted roughly similar gods for the Roman gods, Tiu (Twia), Woden, Thor, Freya (Fria), but did not substitute Saturn.

I am reminded of Matthew 23:23-28:

23 “Woe to YOU , scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because YOU give the tenth of the mint and the dill and the cumin, but YOU have disregarded the weightier matters of the Law, namely, justice and mercy and faithfulness. These things it was binding to do, yet not to disregard the other things. 24 Blind guides, who strain out the gnat but gulp down the camel!

25 “Woe to YOU , scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because YOU cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of plunder and immoderateness. 26 Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the dish, that the outside of it also may become clean.

27 “Woe to YOU , scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because YOU resemble whitewashed graves, which outwardly indeed appear beautiful but inside are full of dead men’s bones and of every sort of uncleanness. 28 In that way YOU also, outwardly indeed, appear righteous to men, but inside YOU are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

What really cracks me up with jw hypocrisy is that lipstick originated with pagan prostitutes. The ones who were willing to perform oral sex used berries to color their lips to advertise their services. So, according to jw thinking, every jw woman who wears lipstick is no better than the pagan prostitutes who were out and about blowing every Tom, Dick and Harry that was willing to pay for it.
