The Gospel of Mark states that Jesus went to the wilderness immediately after his baptism, but John says he started gathering his apostles the very next day. If Jesus went to the wilderness who stayed in Galilee? Just thinking...

    Mark 1:10-13

10 And immediately on coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being parted, and, like a dove, the spirit coming down upon him; 11 and a voice came out of the heavens: “You are my Son, the beloved; I have approved you.”

12 And immediately the spirit impelled him to go into the wilderness. 13 So he continued in the wilderness forty days , being tempted by Satan, and he was with the wild beasts, but the angels were ministering to him.

    John 1:32-43

32 John also bore witness, saying: “I viewed the spirit coming down as a dove out of heaven, and it remained upon him. 33 Even I did not know him, but the very One who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘Whoever it is upon whom you see the spirit coming down and remaining, this is the one that baptizes in holy spirit.’ 34 And I have seen [it], and I have borne witness that this one is the Son of God.”

35 Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and as he looked at Jesus walking he said: “See, the Lamb of God!” 37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus turned and, getting a view of them following, he said to them: “What are YOU looking for?” They said to him: “Rabbi, (which means, when translated, Teacher,) where are you staying?” 39 He said to them: “Come, and YOU will see.” Accordingly they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day ; it was about the tenth hour. 40 Andrew the brother of Simon Peter was one of the two that heard what John said and followed [Jesus]. 41 First this one found his own brother, Simon, and said to him: “We have found the Mes·si´ah” (which means, when translated, Christ). 42 He led him to Jesus. When Jesus looked upon him he said: “You are Simon the son of John; you will be called Ce´phas” (which is translated Peter).

43 T he next day he desired to depart for Gal´i·lee . So Jesus found Philip and said to him: “Be my follower.”

You need to read all of that part of john.

John the Baptist Denies Being the Christ

19 Now this was John’s testimony when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Christ. a ”

21 They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”

    He said, “I am not.”

    “Are you the Prophet?”

    He answered, “No.”

22 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”

23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’ ” b

24 Now some Pharisees who had been sent 25 questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

26 “I baptize with c water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

    Jesus the Lamb of God

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”

32 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God.”

    Jesus’ First Disciples

35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”

They said, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?”

39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”

There is no actual Baptisim of Jesus in John.

John mentions that Jesus is the one and then WHEN he HAD baptized Jesus, those vents ( Dove and vocie) happened, there isn't a direct sequence of events there.

Both Mark and John are referring to the time Jesus started his ministry. The question is focused to point what happened next. Did Jesus went to the wilderness or started gathering his disciples in Galilee.

Yes, but there is no chronology in John in rgeards to Jesus's Baptisim.

One day John testifies to hsi disciples that WHEN he baptized Jesus ( no mention of the time frame of the actual baptisim) he saw those things, the next day after the conversation between John and his disciples, they leave to go with Jesus.

There is no baptisim ACT in John nor is there a temptation in the dessert, John didn't really focus too much on events that had already been mentioned in the synoptic gospels, though he did mentioned some of them.

If you believe the gnostic gospel of Judas, the twin theory holds a good bit of water.
