The first thing that popped into my head was "General Hand Grenade".

    Yeah, right!

Tito was good president. But shortly after war he ordered massmurder of thousands of people who dissagreed with his politics.

Yes, USTASHI are those fascists. They are still active here, although they work "underground", illegal.

Here is a photo from concert of Croatian singer Marko Perkovic, called "Thompson". He will deny it, but he is their leader. You can see "U" on forehead of this guy. That's "U"-USTASHI. And uprised right hand, and words "Heil! Heil!" is their salutation.

    Ustaša = scary mindset.

    'Heiling' anything is very distubring....

What is the drawl to this type of ideology in this day and age?

Also what is the 'rule' regarding surnames in Croatia? Is Marko's last name Perkovic or Thompson.

    "Mass murder of thousands."

Well that ends my childhood illusions about Marshall Tito. Not such nice guy after all.

re: ustashi --- they look like bad news. Hopefully they will stay underground and not become powerful again.

"Ustaša" literally means "the one who stand up" ("get up, stands up... don't give up the fight")

Marko Perkovic - Name and surname. Thompson is his nickname.

    This is "THOMPSON"

And this is the singer, Thompson:

He has strong support of Catholic Church in Croatia. It is not unusual that his songs are being sung or quoted in churches at sunday.

    That's terrible!

And, the last names in Croatia usually have end -ic (read "-ich").

Why are they still active today? Well, because Tito has done what he has done.... Killed thousands of people. Those people were fathers of now active Ustashi. So, they want some kind of revange, maybe. Their activities are illegal in Croatia, but nobody can stop them. Nobody even tries.

Yes, linp, massmurders of thousands. Ustashi also killed many people. Have you ever heard for Jasenovac? There was one big mistake made by Tito. He never judged those fascist killers. He just killed them, without judging them. He only ordered to kill them. And executers killed everybody - men, women, children, old people... More about that, you can read after this link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1160708/300-victims-Yugoslavias-communist-regime-mass-grave.html This mass-grave was opened last year.

So, TITO was, is and will be one of the most misterious persons of the 20th century.

But after all, this part of the world has really sad fate...

No, Titus I did not know about Jasenovac. We were told by our news media that pro-nazi Croatians engaged in genocide during WWII but we were not given details. The details are unbelievable...unspeakable. Who can believe that nightmarish men like Lubruric or Majstorovic ever existed - but they did.

So when Tito came to power.....he was a communist.....he hunted down the Ustashi in a brutal fashion -- and slaughtered innocents as well as Ustashi soldiers. If he had captured them and given them fair trials, then the world could learned about Ustahsi war crimes. But Tito was as heartless as the Ustashi. So now you have all these angry young kids wanting revenge.

Thanks for the links and Youtube , Titus --- you are an educator.

It is good you said "pro-nazi Croatians", because people usually say only "Croatians". That is not true. There was a... an... the "Independent State of Croatia". Why I say that - because it causes some troubles to those who research history. They think that it was the independent state of Croatia. But it was not. It was called "Independent State of Croatia" (NDH - Nezavisna Država Hrvatska).

:: INDEPENDENT - It was not - it was under Hitler's and Musollini's control

:: STATE - It was not - it was a province of the Third Reich, or "puppet-state"

:: CROATIA - It was not Croatia - although it had flag similar to nowdays Croatian flag, and KUNA as currency

Furthermore, the Constitution of Croatia clearly says:

    I. HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONS

The millenary identity of the Croatia nation and the continuity of its statehood, confirmed by the course of its entire historical experience within different forms of states and by the preservation and growth of the idea of a national state, founded on the historical right of the Croatian nation to full sovereignty, manifested in:

    - the formation of Croatian principalities in the seventh century;
    - skipping
    - skipping
    - skipping
    - establishing the foundations of state sovereignty during the course of the Second World War, by the decisions of the Antifascist Council of National Liberation of Croatia (1943), as opposed to the proclamation of the Independent State of Croatia (1941), and subsequently in the Constitution of the People's Republic of Croatia (1947) and all later constitutions of the Socialist Republic of Croatia (1963-1990), on the threshold of the historical changes, marked by the collapse of the communist system and changes in the European international order, the Croatian nation by its freely expressed will at the first democratic elections (1990) reaffirmed its millenniary statehood. By the new Constitution of the Republic of Croatia (1990) and the victory in the Homeland War (1991-1995), the Croatian nation demonstrated its will and determination to establish and defend the Republic of Croatia as a free, independent, sovereign and democratic state.

USTAŠE misused the name of Croatia, and it has negative tone today in Serbia, or somewhere else, because it is guessed that modern REPUBLIC of CROATIA is successor of the INDEPENDENT STATE of CROATIA. We, the real Croatians, we don't hate Serbians. Ustaše do hate them, and beside the "Heil, Heil" salutations, they usually outcry "Kill Serbians! Kill Serbians!"

Yes, that's in short. And finally, why did Tito's men slaughtered all those people (it is believed there is more than 500 mass-graves only in Slovenia)? That was revenge too. Revenge for Jasenovac i Stara Gradiška. Revenge for revenge for revenge.... etc.

Historia magistra vitae est - History should be our educator

I hope we shall learn something from historia. But I wonder when...

    Not too late, I hope...

    Sincerely,

    TITUS

yup....the Vichy regime did not represent the real French nation...they were puppets/collaborators. Fortunately for the French people the whole world seems to understand that.
