Survivors shiver in Turkey after quake kills 51

By BURHAN OZBILICI and SUZAN FRASER, Associated Press Writers Mon Mar 8, 3:39 pm ET OKCULAR, Turkey – Hundreds of earthquake survivors huddled in aid tents and around bonfires Monday in eastern Turkey, seeking relief from the winter cold after a strong temblor knocked down stone and mud-brick houses in five villages, killing 51 people.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100308/ap_on_re_eu/eu_turkey_earthquake/print;_ylt=Aovcmz.3hC_i9x940453SsxbbBAF;_ylu=X3oDMTBvajZzaTFyBHBvcwMxNQRzZWMDdG9wBHNsawNwcmludA--

Monday's quake in eastern Turkey followed deadly recent temblors in Haiti and Chile, but Bernard Doft, the seismologist for the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute in Utrecht, said there was no direct connection between the three.

"These events are too far apart to be of direct influence to each other," he said.

Richard Luckett, a seismologist from the British Geological Survey , said there has not been a spike in global seismic activity.

"If there was a big increase in the number of magnitude 6.0s in the past decade we would know it, because we would see it in the statistics," Luckett said. "We haven't seen an increase in 7.0s either."

He said scientists often see strong earthquakes but they don't get reported because the damage or death toll is minimal. According to USGS data, the world is hit by about 134 earthquakes a year in the 6.0- to 6.9-magnitude range — or about two a week.

"The point is that earthquakes are common and always have been," he said.

He could also have pointed out that earthquakes always happen in the same areas of the Earth. Brazil never gets any, for example. Canada gets few.

    Ha. That's a great quote.

Earthquakes come in cycles. This is because plates tend to get stuck. If they get stuck, you are not going to see an earthquake for a while. If many are stuck, there will be very few quakes until one gets unstuck. At that point, there is going to be an earthquake there. Chances are, the earthquake will dislodge other stuck plates, and you will see earthquakes there, too. This will go on until you see all the stuck plates unstuck, and then the process starts again.

    And, it predicts precisely nothing.

Anyone who has taken a freshman level geology class learns this. It's yet another reason (in addition to freshman sociology and psychology classes) why the borg opposes college education so vehemently.

The WTS. uses only information that supports their doctrines , thats why you'll never read in any of their articles

that earthquakes have been occurring for hundreds of thousands of years on a continuing and constant

basis. Unfortunately for the naive and ignorant that leaves the individuals impressed with misinformation,

which essentially is the style of the WTS.

A brother once said this in a talk, he said eathquakes hadn't become more frequent but because people build in earthquake zones the effects are worse. The CBOE took exception to this apostate statement and made a big deal about it. Turned out the brother was quoting from the societies publications.

Unfortunately to most dumb ass JWS who has little or no education in human history,

those special signs of the times of the end were prevalent in the ancient times in which they were written.

    all of them.

Select religions aren't under some body of governorship to look out and watch over their teachings or proclamations.

Thats why you hear so much self supporting quackery come out their mouths.
