Who’s smarter, Catholics or J.W.’s?

Any religion that seeks to control, is a religion that gets a thumbs down. I have friends in Mexico City and I just don't understand the need for all the rituals. They program their kids from a very young age.

However I do not believe that they shun. That is childish.

This court finds that Catholics are smarter. More honest too.

The catholic church for all it`s many faults/failings does put it`s money where it`s mouth is,it does look after the poor, the sick, the afflicted, without judging the individual, beleiver or non beleiver, however jehovah`s witnesses only support/help people who are jw`s themselves or interested persons, being very selective, discriminate.

Catholics at least allow their members the freedom to think, learn, and grow. The witlesses do not.

Catholics are a lot smarter. Sin a lot and enjoy yourself. Go to the priest and confess and say a few Hail Marys and all is good

You could say that about any religion: sin a lot, enjoy yourself, be sorry and go to church and it's all good. JW's too. The difference is that Catholics at least admit they are sinners. I can't stand whenJjW's and Evangelicals sit there and judge gays for example all the while knowing they fornicate, judge others, cheat on their taxes, etc. etc.

With all due respect, Burns, I don't understand how you can be so against Democratic social issues in this country and still be Catholic. The Catholic Church is a socially progressive church.

BlueSapphire, you neglect to mention homosexual marriage.

I often disagree with the strategy and tactics adopted by the USCCB.

But that generation of post Vatican II liberal Bishops will pass away, and is passing away.

I honestly believe if Jesus were on Earth today he would be against Capitalism.

Jesus would be against materialism, not an ethical capitalism. Materialism is a form of idolatry.

While I have my own reservations, the Church has spoken out against laissez faire capitalism. This is where individualism and the absolute primacy of the law of the marketplace is practiced.

With a modicum of regulation, capitalism has proven over time to be the best method of advancing the physical condition of humanity. So in and of itself, I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with capitialism provided that we keep it serving us and not us serving it.

Even communism and socialism are not completely rejected, by the way, only the totalitarianism and atheism.

It just so happens that capitalism is more complementary to Church teaching on subsidiarity. However, the Church teaches that we must regulate accordingly, in line with human dignity. The economy of ancient Israel was capitalistic, it's governance before Saul was anarchic, but economic life was tempered both by regulation and an appeal to charity, as the Torah evidences.

Exactly! I believe the best form of government is a social democracy with proper social nets and regulated markets..... Unbridled capitalism is evil as we can well see.
