Thanks for the comments and links... and some extra details re the other groups.

When i did this exercise, my aim was to see how unique they are and just on the better known adventist groups basic beliefs concluded that they are not special and indeed the others have just as many if not more 'claim' to be God's chosen ones. Add in the groups that i am yet to x reference to the JW and i am in no doubt that they will reconfirm to even a greater degree that the JWs are not 'special ' and not 'the truth'. That they are no more than just another Adventist off-shoot. ( I did not compare them to only the SDA but attempted to encompass the basic core of most 'adventist' ideas)

edit: i found that the seventh day adventists changed the stand on the trinity in an attempt to mainstream themselves... i'd have to re-google that bit to find the date.

contains the history of SDA and the trinity. The years 1931 to 1957 are seen as the years of acceptance of the teaching.

Oz, I don't have time to read the link right now. I'll read it when I get back from work but according to their own website, they still believe in the trinity. Here's the link. It's number 2 under their fundamental beliefs.

I read the link and realized that I misread your post. I thought you meant they only accepted the trinity teaching between 1931 - 1957 and then afterward stopped that teaching. My bad.

This is totally off topic, but I don't care.

Did your kids see "Death of the Megabeasts" on SBS?

I reckon it would be a great doco for JW kids to watch, especially Ozzie kids. They haven't announced if they intend to repeat it.

The DVD is for sale in Dimocks and it might be available in the municipal library.

    Cheers

A team of scientific detectives from around the world attempt to crack one of science’s most enduring mysteries – what killed Australia’s megafauna? Long after the extinction of the dinosaurs, extraordinary species of giant beasts roamed the earth, ruling the animal kingdom for hundreds of thousands of years. But suddenly, inexplicably, they vanished.

As scientists re-open this prehistoric cold case, could the answer to their quest offer clues to our own survival and prevent a future mass extinction on an unfathomable scale?

Long after the extinction of the dinosaurs, other extraordinary species of giant beasts roamed the earth- they were the megafauna. In Australia some of the most bizarre to roam the earth existed including a giant wombat, a huge kangaroo, a massive lizard and the earth’s biggest flightless bird. For hundreds of thousands of years these were the heavy weight champions of the animal kingdom.

But suddenly, inexplicably they vanished. Something happened which wiped them off the face of the planet forever.

While there have been several mass extinctions of large terrestrial animals throughout history, the death of Australia’s megafauna is relatively recent. It occurred less than 60,000 years ago and no one knows why. It remains one of the longest running and hotly argued debates in palaeontology. For decades scientific sleuths from around the world have been trying to solve the mystery.

Now in a unique corner of the world, a team of top scientists from around the world attempt to crack one of science’s most enduring mysteries - what killed the megafauna in Australia? Their discoveries could not only help solve the mystery but also offer insight into environmental problems which threaten the world and all life today.

As the scientists begin their quest this extraordinary prehistoric world is brought to life using the latest in high quality 3D animation.

Walk with a giant wombat, the diprotodon; hop with a giant kangaroo, the procoptodon; crawl with a giant lizard, the megalania. This is weird and wonderful world of the Australian megafauna.

As the scientific detectives reopen this prehistoric cold case they examine the evidence and search for new clues. Using the latest advances in science and technology, they look for a “smoking gun” behind the megafauna extinctions and piece together the final moments of some of the strangest creatures ever to have walked the planet.

As the mystery unfolds, the scientists examine megafauna “case files”. They use cutting edge dating techniques to determine the “time of death” and they investigate possible causes. Their “suspects” include Ice Ages, climate change, habitat loss, over hunting and other early human activities. Their conclusion to what killed the megafauna may just offer us all clues to our own future survival.
