Personally I think then WTS is directly responsible for the deaths of those JWs in Malawi.

But they are just as responsible for deaths of people from blood transfusions, from not recieving organ donations, mishandled sexual abuse casea (2 in my family alone, suicides die to the practice of disfellowshipping and shunning.

And I should also add that from the JW point of view (defintely not my point of view) is that my ex is blood-guilty for myself and my 2 daughters as well as his second wife and her 2 daughters leaving the JWs. Although they don't hold him responsible - they blame the wives

Was it ever determined about how many JWs died in the Malawi card incidents?

I always had the feeling it was a relatively small number, but of course even one is still bloodguilt.

*Rutherford at first appeared to be very simpathetic to hilter's cause and later turned the opposition:

The Brooklyn headquarters of the Watchtower Society is pro German in an exemplary way and has been so for many years. For that reason, in 1918, the President of the Society and seven members of the board of directors were sentenced to 80 years in prison, because the president refused to use two of the magazines published in America under his direction for war propaganda against Germany. These two magazines...were the only magazines in America which refused to engage in anti-German propaganda...".

"...that the Bible Researchers of Germany are fighting for the very same high ethical goals and ideals which also the national Government of the German Reich proclaimed respecting the relationship of humans to God...

"...the contents of the books which were criticized only refers to the situation and actions within the Anglo-American world power--especially England--which is responsible for the League of Nations and it contracts and burdens imposed upon Germany. What is written in our literature--no matter whether from a financial or political point of view--is only directed towards the suppressors of the German people and their country, but by no means refers to Germany itself, which is trying hard to fight against the imposed burdens..."

The Watchtower letter goes one step further and quotes paragraph 24 of the program of the National Socialistic German Party of Workers, which reads

"We demand the freedom of all religious denominations within the state, as far as they do not endanger the state itself or violate the moral values of the German race. The party as such represents the viewpoint of positive Christianity without being attached to any particular denomination. It fights against the Jewish-materialistic spirit inside and outside of us and is convinced that any recovery of the German people can only take place from the inside out".

IN Crisis of Conscience Franz quotes some numbers but not deaths

    • 1964 - 1,081 families saw their homes burned or otherwise demolished, 588 fields of crop destroyed
    • 1967 - rapings of more than 1,000 women, one mother violated by six different men, her thirteen-year-old daughter by three men. At least forty of the wmen were reported to have suffered miscarriages due to this
    • . . . thousands of familiesfled their homes and fields to neighboring countries. In 1972 authoritative estimates were that 8,975 fled to Zambia, 11,600 to Mozambique. . . . adding to the tragedy of all this were reports coming out of the camps of small children dying because of lack medicine and medical treatment. (p 134)

The bottom of the page footnotes to some things I have and some I don't:

    • 1965 Yearbook p 171
    • Awake! 1968, 02,08 - 16-22
      • Next we have Brother Sandless Gwezani. "He tells us that he has heard that in the Kasungu area, at a place called Changhanga, forty-four Witnesses were attacked and all of them killed. Some of these were from the Matako Congregation." p 18

      • The rest of this article is filled with atrocoities that make me feel ill
      • Watchtower 1968-02-01 p 71-79 http://www.jwfiles.com/malawi.htm mentions some numbers of rapes and beatings along with destruction of personal property
      • Awake 1972-12-02 p 9-22
        • One of the most vicious examples of physical persecution involving Witnesses occurred, not in the Communist world, but in Malawi. The savagery of the attackers in Malawi was such that thousands of Witnesses of all ages and both sexes were physically brutalized by police and citizens alike (Jubber, 1977). One Witness, a Mrs. Magola, being pregnant and heavy with child, could not outrun the M.C.P. police. When they caught her, they battered her to death in full sight of many townspeople and police officers, and not one of them came to her aid p. 12. http://www.freeminds.org/organization/other/jehovah-s-witnesses-a-brief-history-of-a-century-of-religious-state-conflicts.html
      • Awake 1975-12-08 p 3-13

Perhaps the other articles give more numbers. But here are some internet sites

I suspect it is hard to know exactly how many died. But the beatings and torture were unbelievable

Horribly blood guilty, wasted lives, I know a father that let his kid die beacause of a blood issue. I would have taken the hit and gotten df'd anyday in order to save a kids life. I would have even risked hell to do that for my kid what a sick sell out..................

Blood on the altar by David A. Reed. Deals with Jehovah's Witnesses dying for lack of blood and how this does not intrude on the average JW. It is a slow and hidden on-going tragedy. A good researched and historical read.

Died for other reasons in the camps?

Well, if they technically were not gassed, they were shot, beheaded and tortured to death in terrible ways, so attempting to minimize or nullify their sufferings is nothing but bad, bad taste and a distasteful mockery of brave men and women's suffering and sacrifice. Shame of all those who from their comfortable houses and couches try to say that the 1933-45 years were not that bad for the JWs.
