First, I bet the Washtowel is going to have a stroke (if they didn't already). I have heard that they denounced Celine Dion's singing Kingdumb Maladies. They do not want any versions that do not come from the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger.

Also, is it true that George Benson got disfellowshipped sometime around 2005?

WTWizard, he was df'd in the 1990's. He is now an elder.

This post was made in 2005 by a one-post poster called new_moon. I tend to give some credence to posters who make once-off posts with a lot of insider information:

I have come across these songs as well. The story that I heard on them is that they were recorded approximately four years ago at the request of the Society. All of the people involved with the recordings were JWs. Then, after they were recorded, the Society could not reach a unanimous vote to release them, so the project was put aside. Since they never released the recordings, all copies are "unauthorized." Celine Dion was not involved, but rather the female voice is that of Sister Lafond. Some of the names involved are: Benson, Graham, Ingram, Lafond, Hutchins, Colello, Kavelin, and Baker. I've also heard another song that is solo guitar. This is not from the same group of people - but it does sound remarkably similar to Prince's style.

Thank you for the further information.

Well, the following video is explained like this.

"kingdom melody from george benson, sheila hutchinson, larry graham, prince, and an unnamed singer who is NOT celine deon!"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_t6v_qp6CM BTW, is this CD (Title: "George Benson & Friends") sold even now?
I don't know how to get this CD except torrent. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080118103232AAfjWoC possible

This isn't surprising, if true (though it is a 2/3 majority that is required, not unanimity). Out of the nine geezers, there are bound to be four of them who think George Benson's music is from the devil because some of the instruments run on electricity and an occasional drum is used to set the rhythm. Drums are from pagan music, you know.

I listened to some of these, and they are very good arrangements. I wonder if part of them (GB) not being able to reach a unanimous vote is because some of the R & F would shit a brick. Sometimes, I do believe that what holds back progression are not the leaders, but the followers who are not ready to take the next logical step.

The fact that there is nothing unscriptural about being a musician or even being famous does not step in the way of some who I have heard make very judgemental comments about JWs who happen to be famous. I remember talking to someone about Prince once, and for one, they did not believe he was a JW (my mom had just heard him talking about during a concert he gave) and two, thought that if he was a JW he should stop making money from his old music and should stop giving concerts.

Uh, excuse me, but just because you are a JW does not mean you stop being an artist and a human being. hello? If anyone was paying even the least bit of attention, they would know that many artists don't have control over what happens to their music/songs after they are released. So, it was not like Prince was going to put them in a box, lock them up and throw away the key. Hello!

anyway, my 2 cent rant for the evening. carry on. :-)

This was the message from the March 2005 KM:

    *** km 3/05 p. 3 Announcements ***
ยท A number of publishers have telephoned the branch office regarding certain recordings of Kingdom songs sung in a popular style that are presently being circulated among Jehovah's Witnesses. They wonder if these recordings have the organization's approval. We are aware of these recordings and would like to inform you that they do not have our approval. Please do not circulate or download these recordings from the Internet. We trust this information will clarify matters.

The songs had circulated round the world by that time and were really enjoyed by those hearing them But when that announcement came out - CD's and downloads were erased in obedience!

Narrow minds and non progressiveness - how blatant!

I personally though song 54 was a beautiful version - chart worthy!
