Conan O'brien, Tonight Show- Go get a REAL cause to fight for

We all need to blow off steam. Ex-JW's come on here and post humor or read about John Doe's trying out a vegetarian lifestyle. That's all fine and cool. I understand that we cannot focus on one thing all the time- our bitterness or hatred of WTS (or our success after leaving the Borg).

What I don't get is how people can have a rally in support of THE TONIGHT SHOW host because he is losing his job and getting a multi-million dollar severance package. Sure, I understand why Jay, Dave, and Conan sling mud at each other like politicians. That's part of their job as entertainers to capture your attention with their funny mudslinging.

America focuses on Sarah Palin's or Hilary Clinton's wardrobe and ignores what they have to say. I understood why Senator Edwards denying being a baby daddy was important, but we didn't have him to vote for anymore so move on. More people vote on American Idol than register to vote in elections. (I actually am not registered to vote, but that's so my JW mother doesn't shun me for the rest of her life.)

Entertainment has it's place. Voting on American Idol doesn't take that long, so go ahead. When you are done, do something good for America or for your neighborhood. Not everyone wants to read all the issues of candidates in their elections. I get all that. Fine. But please please please, Stop rallying for millionaire entertainers. Spend a little energy starting a spark for some real causes. There's Haiti, healthcare, JW pedophiles, local issues in your park or school or water reclaimation district, taxes, alcoholism, crime, etc. etc. etc..

Conan is only getting a 45 million dollar settlment..

I think we should set up a pay pal account..

    And..

Help him through these tough times..

    Screw the people in Haiti..

Most of them probably don`t own a TV..

    And..

    They are`nt funny..

I agree, although I'd be happy to not work for NBC for say a million dollars.

Hell, if NBC just sends me a check for $100.00, I promise not to host any shows for 7 months.

    Spot on OTWO.

I never cease to be amazed that grown men and women can spend their time and energy

on the myriad of so called "celebrities". It's all so superficial when there are serious problems facing mankind.

It seems like a generation with shallow values. Or is that the generation that knew the generation with shallow values.

I disagree. I've watched Conan for a long, long time and have formed a love for what he does. It doesn't mean I don't support real causes. In a world filled with ugly problems certain entertainers help ease the pain. I doubt anyone at a Conan rally has made his situation the center of their lives. I would imagine it's fun for them to get together with fellow fans for a bit of silliness- as I'm sure most of them realize the whole "rally for Conan" idea is silly in itself. I'm also sure many of them have rallied for far more important issues as well.

    I'm with JimmPage.

These people were there because they WILL MISS SOMETHING THEY LOVED.

Team Coco! Just because some of us root for someone who's getting screwed by his employer doesn't mean we didn't also text 90999 for Haiti. Multiple times.
