Mormon FHE, JW FWN.......

Yesterday I met up with some sisters for afternoon Fake Service

We decided to take the kiddos to McDonalds first before taking them to see the Chipmunks ..........

So there we are in the McD's play area and the gals were gabbing on about their FWN activities for tonight before ditching the little ones with a sitter and going to a locally sponsored fireworks event.

A woman with her grandchildren whom I know was at a table behind us.......kids being kids they all started playing in the activity area and we adults got to talking. The woman is Mormon and had overheard the FWN stuff and wanted to be helpful by giving us a list of suggested sites as the Mormons have 'Family Home Evening'.......she goes on to explain that 'FHE' is held on Mondays traditionally and they are basically the same concept as FWN .

Now while I did a quick JWN search before posting this and found that our Brilliant Blondie did in fact post this factoid on a 2008 AGM notes thread...... I missed this entirely and we were all completely embarrassed and speechless other than polite gratitude!

((To review Blondie's comments if interested http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/166460/1/Notes-from-Annual-Meeting-October-2008 ))

SO I thought to myself........If I had missed this interesting Mormonizing point, some others posters and newbies might want to chew on his blantant rip-off and speculate what else the WTS might be 'borrowing' from the LDS....

Excommunication, door to door missionary work, white shirts with black ties, old men making unchallenged rules...

Progressive revelation is the most unique and significant commonality.

    Progressive revelation is good...

How about no smoking, no pre-marital sex, no questioning church authority, no women teaching to men...

How a re-enactment of Jesus approving the WTS every 3 o 4 years somewhere in NY or Penn.....

    Our own little Hill Cumorah...

I talked to some ex-Mormons for a long while & created this comparison chart. Kind of startling, the similarities.

Thanks Rebel....... that was very well put together!

I didn't realize the Mormons called them 'Morg' as compared to our "Borg"

The education thing really gets me today! I know of a girl whose grandma wants her to take a few college course but her grandpa, dad and mother are against it because of her living at home and it jepordizing Gramps and Dad's positions in the congo/circuit! ( For the lurkers: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/161775/1/Copy-of-CO-Letter-Outline-Regarding-Education-In-Spanish). makes me sooooo mad! If the 'Borg' is going to continue onward and copying the 'Morg' I wish they would expand Gilead into a little micro BYU so that JWs could make up excuses and transfer to other colleges!
