This picture I took about a year ago in Munich assembly hall, where it was proudly presented how inventive JW are to invite public to District Convention. Its quite unusual for JW (sign of mainstreaming?). Have you ever heard of something similar in other countries - using advertisemnets, billboards etc to preach / invite ?

Yes, we use it in many places in Europe.

The buildings use for the conventions here have large lighted billboards associated with the buildings that advertise the convention.

I have not heard of it in the United States--yet. And, it is only a sign of appearing to mainstream (the doctrines are just as whack as always).

No matter--anyone that is curious enough to go to a Grand Boasting Session based on a billboard could get the same information by just going online. That way, they can find out that going would only be a complete waste of time--they spend maybe 20 minutes getting enough information to realize that it is a waste of time, instead of a whole weekend.

So quickly we forget the sandwich board signs and sound cars used in yesteryear.

Also, the WTS takes advantage of articles in local newspapers advertising and explaining the conventions. The internet is peppered with such news items.

    Then there are handbill campaigns

District Conventions, held in some 155 lands. Millions of Kingdom publishers in over 99,000 congregations shared in the campaign, the first of its kind.

There use to be "bumper stickers" for convention time. Anyone remember?

Was that joke your own Albert, or the JWs came up with it? I can imagine they really thought a billboard is inventive - they do this all the time, thinking they deserve a pat in the back because they use such "modern day" technologies as library software (way outdated by today's standards), DVDs (what, years after DVD got mainstream, and the world is already starting to leave the standard behind?), the Internet (riiiight... ).

I don't remember bumper stickers but I do remember that when we had International Conventions and we had to drive 6 to 10 hours away (depending on the convention site). We put WT and Awake magazines across the back dash so they could be seen by other motorists. One family had a station wagon so they taped the magazines to the rear side windows.

I remember when putting the tetragrammaton on cars was popular too. Either as a window decal or a sticker on the bumper or rear deck lid.

Did you count the time for that?

    BUMPER STICKERS

*** w76 3/15 p. 171 A Happy Family Life—How We Achieved It ***One outstanding assembly that we attended was in New York in 1958. On our way there from Vancouver, we parked the car in Spokane, Washington, to do some shopping, telling the children to remain in the car. On our return, they told us that a man had come over to talk with them. They pointed him out to us in a nearby store. He waved and approached the car. He told us that he had noticed our bumper sticker advertising the New York assembly and identified himself as one of Jehovah’s witnesses. He invited us to his home for a steak dinner, followed by an evening of Christian fellowship and a pleasant night’s rest.
