My father's sister, my Aunt Gladys, married and moved to the Birmingham area in the 60s. She had four children and now she has quite a few grandchildren. So, I have a number of cousins of various ages in Alabama.

I'm from Georgia. Alabama was our red headed step child. much like West Virginia to Virginia, Maine to New England, or California to the 49 United States of America.
In other words all of our red neck jokes involved Alabama...

I lived on the Gulf coast for over 10 years and loved it, still missed it. My ex inlaws are still there, and we are very close. I have lots of great memories of Alabama.

My 90-year-old great-aunt grew up in Alabama and has lived in the South all her life. You won't find a sweeter, kinder, more hospitable lady anywhere. She's done her darndest to make me like grits, but sad to say, I still don't like them.
