Taken from a yahoo group. the irony in this was too amazing to pass up.

Regarding 2012:
Just enter 2012 in Google or Bing and away you go.
Our territory is rural in the Adirondacks of upstate NY and yet I have had
several encounters with individuals who told me I better get on the ball
because 12/21/2012 is the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar.
One man with a couple of phDs scoffed at Jesus comments regarding no man
knowing the day and the hour. One young man--well young to me he is forty--
told me and one of my students who was with me that we were so sweet he
really wants us to "get it". Of course, every scripture I brought up he
said he had thoroughly examined the Bible and had discussed it with priests
and he had confounded even these experts on the Bible. [I was chuckling
inside but had on my face for sincere interest.] He kept telling us that we
were such nice ladies but he was just too intelligent for us. I told him he
needed to do less informing us of how intelligent and do some listening.
Nice young man but will not learn anything until he learns some humility.
He was able to run a lot of number sequences for us. All double numbers are
special. 9/11; Jesus dying in 33; etc., etc. Never told us what the
information from double numbers was but that all that is "very interesting
that you use these numbers but you don't know what they mean." Silly me, I
said then, "explain it to me because I am a serious student of the Bible and
if I am wrong I need to know what is right." I do not have to worry about
humility because he informed me that I was not intelligent enough to grasp
the concept. (Thanks to Jehovah)
Wikipedia has the chronology for the events leading up to the big day of
12/21/12. These believers also put a lot of stock in the "hidden books" of
this and that. They also take numbers and events from the Bible and other
"sacred writings" and take the pieces they can fit into what they decide and
thusly, "prove" their points. After a fruitless discussion on scriptural
logic the multiple PhDs fellow told me to get on the ball and I just smiled
broadly and told him I would be back in January of 2013 to see how he made
out. Our conversation was cordial so he laughed too and said "time will
tell". The arrogance of some of these individuals is humorous but they are
so sure they are correct. The zeal with which they swallow all this math
would be awesome if it were directed toward clearing Jehovah's sovereignty.
Some feel Nostradamus was trying to tell people about this. None of them
have been able to connect the dots for me; they just keep saying the numbers
have all the answers to what is going to happen. I was discussing my
experiences with one of my friends a Bethel and he said the only area that
you can attempt to reason with them about is prophecy. Bible prophecy has
proven true whereas other prophecies have not. He agreed with me that it is
very difficult because the folks are very focused and very sincere about
what they now believe is the truth. I am not able to recommend a talk for
her but at least she does not seem to be as arrogant as the folks I have
talked with. Information on Bible prophecy is the route to look at.
Everyone wants a date and they all miss the work that needs to be done
first. 2 Cor.4:4
Religion is going down the sewer so people are looking to numbers for the
answers now.
Blessing on your efforts but the Bible is still the only right course.
