It's all molecules dude. Emergent complexity is us. "The Sacred Emergence" if you want to get metaphysical. We are not the end of the line, but a rung in a chain.

This is an article about discussing the implications of "designer babies", but somehow it's being twisted into eugenics. Fail. It's about breeding, not genocide.

If you want to actually discuss the article properly - let me begin by posing questions actually pertinent to the article:

    • If a woman goes to a sperm bank to become impregnated, should she be allowed to choose the traits that she wants? Should she be shown the aptitudes and appearance of the donors so she can do "selective breeding"?
    • If no, then how is this different from choosing which man she wants to marry based on the same criteria?
    • Would a dating company specializing in putting together the best and brightest from varying fields of excellence be wrong?

Thank You for that article. This stuff strangely makes me less cynical about the future.

I have no moral qualms with any of those above scenarios. Now, I'd personally be losing out on alot of lovin', but thats the selective reality.

I'd be a hypocrite on a massive order if I denied I wouldn't jump at the opportunity of giving any of my future offspring a genetic edge. I guess where it gets touchy for some people are, not so much your scenarios which fundamentally involves personal reproductive choice, but programs that restrict it.
