The watchtower isn't the WTS's "sort of" logo. It is a logo, used for advertising purposes, just like the spoon on Betty Crocker products. Remember, the WTS is a business corporation.

sure they do, cross is pretty much universal logo of christianinty (except dubs from 1920'a I think but they hardly count), crescent moon is logo of islam, yin–yang is of Taoism etc. Symbolism is deeply entrenched in religion in general, I guess you could almost argue that it touches humans on archetypical, subliminal level, where different groups identify character of their worldview through presence of one of those.
