Those songs take me back to elementary school, but yeah, music really marks eras in my life. If I think of junior high school, I immediately think of Men Without Hats' "Safety Dance", for Dexy's Midnight Runners' "Come on Eileen", or Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", or Duran Duran's "Union of the Snake", or Culture Club's "Karma Cameleon", or Michael Jackson's "Beat It". I think I have school memories attached to every one of these songs. I think to a stage performance at school involving ghosts set to the sound of "Planet Claire" by the B-52s. Or a friend on the bus listening to "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow on cassette tape. Or the summer after 8th grade....listening to Madonna's "Lucky Star" or Cherelle's "Didn't Mean to Turn You On" or especially Bananarama's "Cruel Summer". Ahhhh, the memories! 1984 was the best year in music. Then came freshman year of high school....I remember this boy coming down the stairwell at school singing "Oh wee oh wee oh" from The Time's "Jungle Love". Or hearing "The Boys of Summer" playing on the radio in the locker room. Or my friend Heidi in the library singing the words to Madonna's "Live to Tell" (well, that was the following year). Ohhh and those school dances whenever "Rock Lobster" came on and we all got down, down, down to the floor.
Music was good in the '80s, and it weaves through the memories like a fabric...
