when the elders have ameeting with you why do they make you sit nxt to door and say you are free to leave at anytime if you get upset ? is it if you are a female only ?

That way you can't claim 'imprisonment'.

For me a trip to the back room usually has the Elders on one side of the table and me alone on the other (nearest to the door).

Even when counsel is given standing up in the backroom the Elders are near the table and me near the door.

Also it creates a situation where you are in the stance of approaching them......

    Power play and legal a**-covering.....

So you sat down and they (or he) commanded you to move and I take it you did in an act of submission to their authority.

It reminds me of when a gal calls a guy and he tells her he can't talk but will call her back....... because he is playing a game to make her 'wait' on him. I know it sounds stupid but I remember seeing a book in high school some boys were passing around about how to 'control' girls they were dating. Similarly it was given as a leading technique in the movie "The Ugly Truth"

No sadly I am not joking, some men are that devious and insecure.

So far, I just don't show up. They can try having the meeting, but I will be about 2 km away from the door--on the outside.

It's not always the way you say with everyone- different elders and different members do things differently.
    But generally, you are correct.

Part of it is that they want to face the door and welcome the person. They know that they will have to send the person out the door at some point and they don't want them coming past them and their notes and their precious "Flock Book."
