People on cell phones look like inattentive space cadets, looking not at what is happening around them, but straight ahead and oblivious to their surroundings.

If the GPS is mounted out of your field of vision, can you still see it? Is it lower like on the cup holder or something where you can glance down and see it?

That's the idea. You don't need to constantly see it or watch it. A glance once in a while will tell you how many miles to the next turn or the name of the street. But a computerized voice tells you when you get close. Newer ones even have lane assist. It'll tell you what lane to get in, if you're on a multi-lane highway with mulit-lane exits that then split again and again.

They're great to have, but they can be distracting if you don't use them properly. I don't use mine around town...only when I'm going somewhere where I don't know the way...but I'll still research a map before just to have an idea in case the satellite connections fail or something.

No, I'm a bad enough driver as it is.

i mount my gps directly to the left of the rearview mirror as if the mirror is just a little wider......both are out of the way, do not block view, but are easy to glance at. my wifes car it works better mounted all the way down in the left corner...it does not block view at all as that position the view is part of the hood

i am pretty awful with constant chatter on phone...which i do well....it is harder when i am shaving and eating a biscuit
