Something that can be said to JW's at the door : I think it would depend on our circumstances. It's good to support our neighbours how we can.

Hmm, when memorial time was approaching I was driving home and saw my street being worked by JWs. No one said a word to me and they skipped right over my door (I was outside cleaning my car). Then when I left out again and came back a memorial rag was left in my door. So, I made excellent use and shreeded it for bedding for my guinea pig. I will go out on limb here and say that the WT could probably find their niche in the animal bedding industry. And the dubbies accomplished their purpose I guess...distribute the lit and avoided conversation with me.
About pubs available online- that is audio only, right?

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered many times before, but what if you accept a copy of the book at the door. Are you asked to pay for it? Could you say something like I will read it, underline passages highlite sentences and discuss it but I'm not paying for it?

The matter of free will says that if you remember to say something like that, be prepared for whatever response you get. It's no different from the moral obligations we face with any other offer in life. And, even if you download the book, you'll still pay for it in ink and paper and it will be up to you to get the cover printed on a stiffer paper, and then bound in a satisfactory manner. It's your call, your life, your respect, your consequences.
As Dr. Phil [McGraw] says, "When I choose the behavior, I choose the consequences."

The JW might or might not make you aware of the fact you can make a contribution for the book. But you are free to keep it no matter what your response will be. 9 out of 10 give nothing and thus in effect these days the literature is free.

You are also free to contribute, in whatever way you can: a meal, etc., etc.
