The rider of the white horse in Rev.6:2 .... Christ or the Antichrist?

To what Snowbird is saying, the crown this rider wears is a different sort than Jesus wears. The white horse rider wears a laurel/wreath crown while Jesus is wears a diadem style crown.

I'm not dogmatic on it, but I personally believe this rider is NOT Jesus -- Here are a few of my reason --

There are four horsemen, they are given authority over four parts of the earth, to kill in four ways -

"And authority was given them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with a long sword and with food shortage and with deadly plague and by the wild beasts of the earth. " - Revelation 6:8

To kill with a long sword = rider of the red horse
To kill with food shortage = rider of the black
To kill with deadly plague (or death) = rider of the pale horse
To kill with the wild beasts of the earth = rider of the white horse

The "wild beasts" in Revelation are definately nothing to do with Jesus but rather the governments of mankind

Another thing for me is that the elder John never identifies this white horse rider as Jesus, where in other places he is specific to indentify he is talking about the Lord.

This isn't the place for in depth discussion really but Jesus' olivet prophecy parallels musch of Revelation - including the seals - In that prophecy what are the four things that Jesus lists first -

The coming of false-Christs to mislead
    Civil war
    Food Shortages
    Pestilence

    DonutH:

The coming of false-Christs to mislead
    Civil war
    Food Shortages
    Pestilence

That certainly makes a lot of sense vs. the mumbo jumbo that so many were forced to study 4 different times during the Tuesday night book study.

    DonutHole, you positively rock!

Thank you so much for that input.

IMO, dogmatism never has any place in discussions of the Scriptures.

Donuthole has hit on a very valuble point in Revelation,

John identifies Jesus, either as the Lamb, The son of Man or king of kings, lord of lords, now one can still leave quite a bit up to interpretation, that is the "pain" of Revelation, of course John of Revelation uses a different term for Lamp than John of the Gospel, but that is another thing, for another time...

PSacramento, there are some who believe Lazarus wrote the Gospel of John.

It does have an "other world" feel, don't you think?

Revelation 6:2: "...and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest."

Assuming that John wasn't stoned out of his gourd when he wrote this, I would say that it pictures the Anti-Christ, not Christ himself. Christ is always seen as conquering with a sword, not a bow, and as Revelation 19 describes, with many crowns (diadems):

(Revelation 19:11-15) . . .And I saw the heaven opened, and, look! a white horse. And the one seated upon it is called Faithful and True, and he judges and carries on war in righteousness. His eyes are a fiery flame, and upon his head are many diadems. He has a name written that no one knows but he himself, and he is arrayed with an outer garment sprinkled with blood, and the name he is called is The Word of God. Also, the armies that were in heaven were following him on white horses, and they were clothed in white, clean, fine linen. And out of his mouth there protrudes a sharp long sword, that he may strike the nations with it, and he will shepherd them with a rod of iron. . ."

which to me, indicates that whoever is riding the white horse, is a false Messiah/king. Plus, with him being grouped in with the other horsemen which apparently indicate famine, war and death, it would make more sense that it was depicting a false Messiah, not Jesus.

Also, many people see Jesus as the Lamb standing by the throne...so why would Jesus be the Lamb, who remains by the throne, AND the rider on the white horse that is leaving the throne area?

    Good question Justitia.

I called my mom today and said please research and give me answers verses what I have found and been informed of here.

We agreed to talk about it next week, as she is attending her assembly this weekend.

I will post what I get from her.

Thanks for everyone's input. If there is more from anyone please post your thoughts/research etc.
