The above thread title, to me, is contradictory in a way. There are a lot of blockbuster money movies (Big Hits) that I have never seen and will never see. On the other hand there are several movies that I consider to be the absolute best that many people have never heard of. We watch a lot of foriegn, sub-titled films and many are among the finest movies we've ever seen. I paid once to see "Lord of the Rings" and had to walk out before the line "Frodo, Frodo!", was shouted for the 75th time. But we saw "Rabbit Proof Fence" first in a tiny "art theartre " and twice on cable and will watch it again someday. The difference in the $Box office of these two films is meaningless to me.

House of Games was a movie I saw earlier this year. It was a terrific Mamet movie. Once again the acting makes the movie very believable. I like movies that throw in a curveball or two to keep you on your toes.

I agree with "Shawshank" one of my favorite movies. I also like The Patriot, although I don't know how it did at the box office.
Sorry to disagree doc, I think the people that made Starship Troopers should be shot. RAH is spinning in his grave. What's too bad is that if they had called "Earth vs the Bugs" or something I might have said "Gee I think the guys that wrote this must have read the book." Instead the butchered it.
