    Terrifying - Yet GOOD NEWS!

"And so now God is about to punish!

Yes, THE KINGDOM OF GOD is now NEAR AT HAND!

There is one reason and one only, for the never-equaled national calamity that is destined soon to strike America and Britain.

(so it's not 'world-wide'? God has a specific target?)

Man MUST first LEARN his lesson, and then make his own right choice!

(Is there any free will when you are told you must make the RIGHT choice? Who decides the "right" choice?)

Only one in three of your friends-of your loved ones-will remain alive -UNLESS they heed the warning and come under God's divine protection according to HIS conditions!

    Americans-Britons-Made SLAVES

And that surviving third will be up-rooted from their homes-transported like cattle as slaves to Europe, and probably some to South America (the Germans are fast gaining dominance and control in South America).

This coming Great Tribulation is not the Wrath of God upon the world's wicked-it is the wrath of Satan the devil upon Christians, and upon the democratic nations..

(and yet the first sentence states that "God will punish"! Perhaps god and satan are working together now?)

Suddenly something terrifying in appearance will happen in the sky.

(yeah, it's called the HAARP rainbow. It causes earthquakes. It's not a mystery god.)

Men will be thrown into frantic terror-for no man can look upon God and live!

(and yet Jesus said the pure in heart would see god! ( maybe that means they would see the sham because they are the truth seekers. ??)

Now comes, in full divine FURY, the period foretold in more than 30 prophecies as "The DAY OF THE LORD"-the time of God's Wrath!

(But I thought you said it was Satan doing it???)

"Vengeance is Mine," says the Almighty God. Now he shall pour out the vials of His vengeance on those who have voluntarily chosen Satan.

Plagues, terrible beyond description, shall fall upon this Fascist-Catholic European Empire. God will now take vengeance for their fiendish tortures of His peoples during the Great Tribulation.

(So now the church must annihilate the outspoken ones who show the religious leaders for the wolves and tricksters-in-the-pulpit that they really are!)

The sixth of these punishing plagues will be a military invasion...

(Here comes that christian mercenary army. Taking the dissidents out in the dark of night, kidnapping them while out on errands, or taking them off their jobs for questioning or quarrantine. They disappear. No rapture about it.)

Now we come to the CLIMAX of all the ages!

a ll who remain alive after these catastrophic wars and plagues will be forced, at last to submit to the rule of Christ and the Kingdom of God.

O nly ONE religion will then be allowed - that of the TRUTH

Gradually, a stubborn, stiff-necked, hostile and rebellious mankind will be forcedinto the WAYS and the LAWS of God.

It will be a Utopia beyond man's fondest or wildest dreams!

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

The dazzling change in fonts, font sizes and colors is extremely distracting and reminds me of the Worldwide Church Of God movement - which thankfully petered out years ago.

If you like those end of the world illustrations in Armstong's booklet 1975, which looked like some in Witness Publications, they were done by Basil Wolverton of Mad Magazine, I guess Herbert Armstrong had good taste.

His son Garner Ted who did the radio broadcast eventually got 'disfellowshipped' by his dad for dissenting views and sexual affairs. His evangilistic association and The Intercontinental Church are still around and led by Garner Ted's son Mark Armstrong they play broadcasts of Garnet Ted's old broadcasts.

A few times I snuck and listened to their broadcasts while a JW, fortunately I didn't get struck dead by divine lightening but I did come to realize their were many similarities to the JW's here are some of those:

He said in 56 that in 72 his followers would have to flee to a safe place and by 75 their would be a nuclear war and Christ's presence would follow. He expected to see the end come in his lifetime. Bobby Fischer the chess player made a big contribution to Armstrong from his 'match of the century winnings' thinking the end might still be coming, gee now I don't feel so bad if you could fool Bobby Fischer...

His magazine was 'The Plain Truth'. One of his publications 'Mystery of Ages.' Those names sound farmiliar.

He believed the reason for Christ's presence on earth was to proclaim the literal kingdom of God to be focused on earth.

He did not accept the Trinity.

Proponents believed Herbert Armstrong was inspired by god and had the gift to understand phrophecy.

Members of the church were expected to dress conservatively. Smoking was a sin. Long hair was not allowed for men short hair and makeup was discouraged for women.

He associated corrupt Christianity with Roman Catholicism.

I lifted some of this stuff from Wikepedia.

His church members were expected to tithe three times and were thus kept relatively poor while Herbert had lavish digs, a private jet, a pretty dapper dresser who had nice jewelery. Divorce was a no no until he got divorced. In his hey day he was bigger than Falwell, Baker and Swagert.

Have you developed a phobia about colored highlighters since leaving WT?

Anyway, the website I pilfered the quotes from came with red and black print.

I changed the color so you would understand that it was "my comments".

Sometimes I still have problems with the editing features, like if I try to put my comments just in italics, I may have to go back after posting and edit numerous times to get the type straightened out from paragraph to paragraph.

Anyway, it was just easier to use the color.

Sorry if I caused you phobia or eyestrain.

What are the odds of two religions coming up with 1975 as their end of the world date? I didn't see anywhere in articles about Armstong that they used the chronology the Witnesses used to come up with that date, Armstrong said God used him as God's sole prophet he said God only worked with one spokesperson per generation and he was it, but he beat the Witnesses with throwing out the 1975 date, what are the odds of that happening?

WHATS UP WITH THAT 1975 DATE?

    Interesting. Not seen this before.

Armstrong wrote 1975 In Prophecy in 1956 (I didn't realise it was that early). It is recognized that Armstrong was influenced by JWs' and others' views.

In 1955, there was a WT QFR about 6,000 years of "God's rest day" (and human history) ending in 1976.

In addition, Famine 1975! (cited in the old 'Truth' book) was published in 1967.

The WTS' 1975/Armageddon fuse was lit in 1966.

Has somebody done a proper study of this? There was definitely some kind of Zeitgeist that led people to ominous predictions for the mid-'70s.

According to the Association of Religios Data Archives, Jehovah's Witnesses as well as Church of God are listed under the "Adventist" family tree.

    Adventist Family

Wouldn't his disprove that JWs are "unique"?

Wouldn't it prove that JWs are a part of worldly religions?

And by the way, this data is complied by information turned in by the churches.
