From what I've read, many states have laws that say the first one to strike a blow goes to jail...seems fair to me. But I don't know how many men would call the police. Anyone who is assaulted should have the aggressor arrested, male or female. A friend of mine who can barely walk due to a leg injury went to jail here in Ohio for hitting her husband with a makeup case. He didn't press charges; the responding officer did.

I was just contemplating what a hell this must be for men in this situation. First, men are taught beginning when they can speak that they are not to hit girls. Second, men are supposed to be stronger than women, (although many are not). Third, men are taught to be quiet in the face of pain.

All of these things combined surely must take a toll on the male abuse victim. First, he questions his own manhood because of the abuse, and second, even if he has the fortitude to seek help, people are not apt to take him seriously.

I totally agree. I only worked with one couple where the wife was the physical abuser. Other than walking out of the home he didn't think there was anything he could do. He stayed for the sake of their children. But her abuse emascualted him. And that in turn increased her rages. I think she wanted him to hit her to satisfy some internal need to prove all men were abusive.

Because he never called the police, he had no record of the abuse. When he left his wife got custody of the children. It was really sad. Personaly I think the children would have been better off with neither of them.
