    Good post Duncan,

Sooty and sweep came to Sydney a few years ago and my wife had to go see her childhood heros (the 10 and 12 year old daughters refused to come) I killed my childhood hero .. poor old Jehovah may he rest in peace.

Interesting comment Alan. Clueless all the way to the top (that surprises me over here too even though our top is much lower than yours) JWs are trained from an early age in doubt suppression but to see a 60 year old Bethelite still speaking watchtowerisms like he did 40 years ago is nothinhg short of pityfull.

Thanks to all who replied. Sorry it's taken me a while to respond back to you, but I'm travelling on business at the moment (Sydney, Australia) and couldn't get the internet access from my hotel room to work (I posted the first post from the office)

Anyway, I'm sitting here in an internet cafe on George street Sydney, just finished climbing the Harbour Bridge (latest tourist sensation here, apparently).

Thirdson, I live in Watford (mathematically proved to be the exact centre of ther observable universe, as it happens)

Alan, I enjoyed your comments, but I do have a hard time believing that ALL of them are sincere but misguided. I reckon after all these years, there's a lot more cynicism than that.

Nathan, Sooty a SOCK? My God, man! Never!

    Duncan,

Ah, Watford...center of the universe. I guess that's why Londoners think anyone living north of Watford is a "Northerner".

Sydney is a cool city. I'd love to go there again. I just need to convince my wife that the flight is survivable. As for the bridge, nice, I hear its a scale replica of the one over the Tyne in Newcastle.

    Duncan,

Yes, a powerful analogy. The WTS conditioning closely follows the pattern of political indoctrination but with a far more subtle undertone.

I was reading the history of a Cuban XJW recently who was victim of the Cuban Socialist indoctrination of the 50's & 60's, and poor fellow, slipped the bounds of that Island only to fall into an even more practiced quagmire of slogans with the WTS. He drew very similar parallels between the two systems.

As to the extent of your little cameo, well as Alan noted, it does goes right to the top.

I was at a meeting a few years ago when an admittedly frail Milton Henschel was asked to close in prayer.

He said, ‘Our father Jehovah, we approach you through your Organization…’. He quickly corrected himself, but such a slip was one of Freudian proportions.

Speaking of Watford, is the Watford Rep. Theatre still there? Spent many an evening in my youth there, watching the likes of Dianna Rig and Dinsdale Landon pound the boards.

    Best regards -- HS

Yep Watford Rep is still there - Watford Palace Theatre, it's where we took my little girl to see Sooty.

Actually we bought a season ticket this year, saw a load of things, including plays I would never have thought of going to, only we went because it was part of the season ticket.

    A bit a culcher, innit?
