The split originated over the doctrinal change of who the "superior authorities" are. From 1879 to 1929, the WTS taught that secular governments were. From 1929 to 1962, Jehovah and Jesus were considered the superior authorities. When this changed in 1962, this group of jws felt that the WTS was apostasizing from an important doctrine (one set by Rutherford).
