There is a book, Your Money or Your Life, which shows that happiness does increase with wealth - up to a point. Not having to worry about paying your bills, knowing you could weather a difficult time, being able to travel, put food on the table, go out to dinner when you want, help others in need - there is a lot to be said about all of that. Not having to worry about money has to be a huge plus in finding happiness.
But beyond that point, there is very little correlation between money and happiness.
I've never been well off. I've been OK. Right now, I'm one or two lost paychecks away from living in the woods. I don't like that at all.

I've always been pretty much middle class. My back is beginning to hurt from the tax burden I carry.

Mae West said, "I've been rich and I've been poor. Believe me, rich is better."
I grew up poor. Go basic with everything; cut out all the frills. Keep a strict budget. Save a little every month.
Listen to Dave Ramsey and Clark Howard and read their books (get them free from your local library) -- they've got lots of advice on living cheaply and how to make what money you have work for you.

The most difficult thing I have found when having money and then not
is how slow and almost impossible it is to make things happen.
It becomes very frustrating and hard not to get discouraged.

If the reason that your income will be reduced is that you're currently working for a dub, and that you expect to be "let go," you might be able to sue on the grounds of affirmative action violations (being fired for religious reasons is discriminatory) and/or hostile work environment. You would need evidence, of course.
It's a long shot but worth considering if that's your financial dilemma.
