Well here's the rub. Most of the drones don't understand it so to them will it matter? No. The 'higher thinking' witnesses do understand it but they will eventually realize that the whole religion is crap anyway and leave (and come here lol)
So would they 'suffer?' Sure some big short term losses would occur but long term? Nah it won't be 1914 that sinks them! It might be 2014 though! lol!
Doctrine doesn't matter when you have an established cult. Sure some doctrine changes will cause some members to leave, but not the deeply intrenched core that are the bread and butter of a cult's existence.
Nothing doctrinal matters to most sheep who've swallowed the cool aid. Charles Russell told them there was no magic, life was mechanistic, and they believed, Rutherford told them to give up the celebration of life and they complied, Fred Franz got a deal on cheap ink, told them green bibles were black and the zombies believed. My father-in-law Elder went to his death bed saddened but 'strong in the truth' that "we are no longer in the date setting business."
Ten years ago I pressed one of my sisters to tell me what she'll do if Armageddon hadn't arrived by 2014. She looked at her feet and said "I'll leave." Whoo Hoo four years to freedom! (but she'll probably join the ranks of the inactive confused).

I think you misunderstood my position. I AGREE with you that they could change ANY doctrine to ANYTHING and it wouldn't matter. The sheep will follow. It's Mind Control. Facts and Reality don't matter. Nor does Scripture matter. They can interpret their way out of anything. I'm one of the people that thinks that due to the Mind Control, they could literally start teaching ANYTHING. It's my contention if you can get a parent to withhold life-saving medical treatment (plasma) from a small child, it's ALL downhill from there. The sky is possible.
I though we were discussing whether or not they WILL drop 1914.
There is no need to drop it, in my opinion, as it's easier to keep it would be to explain it away. I don't see any benefit to dropping the date.

and look how few even remeber 1975?? or have blacked it out of their tiny controlled brain??...the worst mistake they have made lately...is sooooo many changes of generation since 1994...three since then....and some may notice...but most wont even take the time to figure it out....i thing it is more of a social club for them...just like most churches are.........oompa
1975 is what pissed me off. People just giving up because Armageddon was coming---BUT alot fo people didn't give up then. Most had the sense to keep their jobs at least. But I don't think many saved for the future.
Back in the 70's, I don't think the working class (which is what the majority of dubs are) really worried about saving for retirement. But to sell your house, quit your job and pioneer? That was some evil advice. I'd bet alot of those who sold their houses donated some to the Society. Since we all thought we shared stuff back then. And everyone thought the end was coming. I was 7 years old, but I remember the "excitement", even if I didn't understand everything that I was said, I "felt" what they were saying.
If they had stopped with the dates about 40 years ago, there would be no WTBTS now, in my opinion.
Also, 1914 is inseparably linked to their Last Days spiel, given in the door-to-door ministry.

It's true Oompa. For most, the social club is the most important aspect of "the truth".
The intelligent ones have got to realize somewhere deep down inside that it is all a ridiculous farce....however, the strong appeal of the social network helps them to block out that realization...helps them to carry on....helps them to follow their leaders...........must obey....must do as the faithful slave tells us .... the society has all the answers.... we will follow...we will follow....everything makes sense....we have the truth...all who oppose us are puppets of Satan....
