Sister Wallace is very much involved in the biopic of Biggie Smalls, the rapper aka/The Notorious B.I.G.

She's been in many interviews over the years explaining how she tried to get her drug dealing rapper son onto the straight and narrow. In a very recent interview she says she was "pissed" with her son and the situation he was in.

I wonder how this Witness is viewed within the JW community. All I know is that if any of us glorified a rapper, we'd be in big trouble with the elders.

And Prince can be quoted giving political statements in the national media. Perhaps JW's are taking a page from the Scientologist playbook?

A CO once rattled off a list of famous people who grew up attending the KH.

He was attempting to impress upon the kids that drugs and rap/gangsta lifestyles weren't for them.

If remember correctly, he mentioned B.I.G. and JA Rule, Aliyah and Selena as those whose parents were JW.s.

Didn't Aliyah die in a plane crash? And Selena was killed by a stalker? It seems these two didn't die because of their career choices. Granted, celebrities probably have more stalkers than a businesswoman. And most average people aren't flying in private planes.

I don't know if you'd call his mother's comments "glorifying" him. They may even see it as good for them. "If he had only listened to his JW mother, he'd be alive, but instead, he followed the rap lifestyle and is dead. Listen to your mothers and stay JW"!

I think this would be sending the absolute wrong message to JW kids. Biggie Smalls is like a freakin' God in urban culture right now. Selena was deified by latin music. To me as a kid I would be saying "Hmmm...stay as a witness and live a dull, mundane life or leave and become famous!"

There are way more people who left JWs who became famous though, Dave Mustaine for one.
