I think women are traditionally more interested in church than men, no matter what religion. (Who makes who go to church? Marge or Homer Simpson?)
And who is more likely to be at home, especially in decades past, to be called on by JWs- men or women?
And who is more likely to be out in field service while their spouse is at work- men or women?

I just want to add too that I know a few guys who are pioneers and elders now who would never have considered it without their wife's control, I mean, influence.
