I have long thought that the sole reason many, if not most religions have belatedly introduced stricter responses to "in-house"c hild-sex abuse is due to the growing impact of secular legislation against abusers and laws promoting the rights of children. One of the biggest indictments against Biblical religions (Jewish, Islamic and Christian) is their failure to be at the forefront of child rights, so busily have they been promoting their own versions of the "truth". In that regard, all religions are the same: Self-promotion first; child rights second.
If churches/religions, large and small, could have had their way, they would have continued to handle sexual abuse within the church/religion itself, rather than have the matters reported to secular authorities.
