This really grinds my gears! I've heard it a few times recently from the platform: "Our brothers in the first century" or even: "If Solomon was alive today he would be here at the Kingdom Hall with his brothers".
Why did it never occur to me that the mormons, moonies and every other crackpot cult would be saying the same thing from their platforms? 
If Solomon was alive today he'd be at home gettin' it on with a different chick every night.

Jesus wouldn't be at the kingdom hall because:
His brothers aren't there.
He was disfellowshiped for not shunning His brothers who used to be at the kingdom hall.
It seems to me that most characters from the bible would be df'd for some reason or another if they were to go to a kh today.
That would mean that jws are the new jews...just add an "e".
I agree that I also was bothered by their claims to be connected with something from millennia ago.
I felt my intelligence was insulted over and over again by unprovable, presumptuous claims like this that everybody else there seemed to blindly accept.
