"Scams" on Oprah Today - Insight on Why People Still Become JWs

Oprah today had a program on scams, things like the mega-millionaire stuck in Nigeria that needs your bank account numbers to get his money out of the country, and for that he'll split the millions with you; you've just won the Australian, Irish etc lottery, just send money to pay the taxes, etc. Those kinds of things.

Well, everyday people are still falling for that stuff. There are some tremendously gullible folks around who won't take a few minutes to research the authenticity of these too-good-to-be-true scams on the Internet.

And for these same reasons, people are still becoming JWs.

I must say though, that there was one great scam on their. To people who've already been scammed into sending money to Nigeria, they get an official looking letter, as though from the Nigerian government, apologizing for their being scammed, and sending them a million dollar payment to offset their loss - with a little fee attached, of course.

    Now that's a ballsy scam!

I'm getting scammed right from my cell phone now , twice just recently I had someone call my cell phone claiming that I have won a trip to some exotic

location for 2 weeks and all I have to do to claim my prize is to press the number 1 on my keypad and they would make the appropriate arrangements...right

So be aware of that one if it should ever happen to you.

What has happened recently is crooks are taking advantage and are utilizing electronic technology to operate their illicit deeds of sorts and they are

    unfortunately are succeeding at it.

There so many gullible people to take advantage of and sadly they know that.

I saw part of it. The girl that supposedly won the lottery apparently did all the homework she could..the only thing she didn't do it wait 2 weeks..(I worked in a bank I would wait a month)..for the check to actually clear. Just because the bank says the check is available for withdrawl doesn't mean it may not still come back and you will have to pay fthem back for any money you spent from the check.

You could go after the ones that sent you that check but chances are they will be long gone. You will be stuck holding the bag as they say.
