Meeting with Elders - but not about me

So I agreed to meet with the elders to testify against someone.

This person is an elder, is married, but plays around and messes with sisters. That's right, he is married. By messing around I mean sending personal gifts, sending secret love messages, and trying to kiss them and eventually touch in private areas. It has happened with three different sisters over the past 6 years. His wife is in denial, and blames everyone else. The love notes he sends to other sisters? He claims they are all forged, and that a big conspiracy is going on. No one would testify against him, he has a strong personality.

I know those meetings are unfair and often ridiculous, I always tried to be fair when I was in charge of them. But I feel bad for these girls who look to elders for help and then they are taken advantage of.

So I decided to testify. He said he did visit a sister but there was nothing to it. He said the notes were forged. My testimony was that he had bragged to me a couple of years ago that he had touched a girl. I counseled him with another elder, but now recently I heard he is doing it again, and also denying it. So I decided to testify to get him to stop hurting people. During the meeting, he said he did touch the girl, but it was "over her underwear." So the presiding elder said that men and women are like watches, if you touch the watch it is not that sinful, but if you try to wind it up, that is the sin. That is porneia. He explained to us that he learned that at Kingdom Ministry School.

I was then dismissed, since I was only a witness to his earlier confession, I do not know the outcome. I saw one of the girls outside, and I told her she can sue, but another elder was standing right there and he said, "Well, we don't want to bring reproach on Jehovah's name."

If this sounds pretty ridiculous to all of you, thats because it is. I sent an email to the sisters' mother later, telling her to sue because this person is an elder, but she is reluctant. Reproach on Jehovah's name.

How old are these 'sisters'? I thought they were all adults until you said you contacted one sisters mother. Are any under age? If so, YOU need to report it.

Why is it you aren't reporting this to the authorities?

This makes perfect sense to me. The crazyness of it all is that if you were to explain this to a "wordly" person he or she would have a very difficult time comprehending the whole crazy framework.

...but it was "over her underwear."

Yes, but was it "under her overwear"? How many layers was she wearing at the time? How many of those layers did he penetrate? How many of those layers did he TRY to penetrate?

So the presiding elder said that men and women are like watches, if you touch the watch it is not that sinful, but if you try to wind it up, that is the sin. That is porneia. He explained to us that he learned that at Kingdom Ministry School.

Not so good an illustration since "the winder" usually gets wound up more than "the watch". I mean, what guy gets wood from winding up a watch? But touch a hottie even if she hardly notices and boioioioing!! Okay, put down the storybook and fact the facts. Whether or not the girl is willing, the dude... the married dude is looking for his own jollies. Technically, it may fall short of porneia. But, unless he's an OB/Gyn doing an exam in his office, that's 100% loose conduct. He's touching inappropriately and he's not free to marry the one whom he's touching. Since this is a repeat, he's not repentant, therefore DF.

Actually, in ancient Israel, stuff like this would have been tried at the city gate. And in modern court procedings, this would be in open session. If things like this were tried openly, "brothers" would be less likely to get touchy-feely with the "sisters" and the children.

Okay, perhaps I'm venting some personal hostility here. But I'll admit that I'm not the judge and this is just my opinion.

I'm not very convinced of the author of this thread. With the Elder/CO experience he's claimed in the past this thread seems a bit Juvenal.

Well, we don't want to bring reproach on Jehovah's name."

Yea, the victims actions of seeking justice is always reproach.........not the perpetrator!

She needs to get a lawyer ASAP! The WTS screwed up out there already by claiming clergy status for Elders.

Yknot .......of the brought reproach class by calling the police cuz he hit my Mama again

(but he never did after that night in the slammer-- amazing how 12 hours can do so much to change a man's actions versus supposed 'counsel' by Elders)
