  1: Help new posters on their way out to feel this is a board which will wecome them, support them, and not thrust objectionable material under their nose.

  2: Avoid posting porn and other photographic materials your children couldn't see unsupervised.

  3: No duty to refuse to hijack threads with irrelevant material that does not constructively further the discussion.

  4: Reflect before posting as to the effect on other souls reading the posts.

  5: Defend their "perceived" rights to say what they want on this board, when such "RIGHTS" are not protected by any constitutional laws. Simon is a good guy - no Satan.

  6: Ensure they say things acceptable at any other open and free social function, where the guests are free to express themselves.

  If you dont agree with this, then POST ONLY WHEN YOU ARE SOBER.

  AS an alcoholic I do this ALL THE TIME now.

  I agree we have obligations to be civil. I think it is really easy to step over the line because of the anonymous nature of posting. We need to keep this forum as comfortable for others as we can. That does not preclude debating in a respectful manner.

  It is kind of a double edged sword because the anonymous factor can help us to be more open and honest about our feelings. On the other side, it can embolden us to say things we certainly would not in face to face discussion.

  I belong to one forum where you are required to put your REAL NAME in your sig.
  
  Now, that can't go here, obv, but I think the point is good. That forum has very little BS, because people are constantly reminded of their responsibility to their community.

  The only duties I know of is to abide by the rules that we have agreed to at the time we signed up on this forum.
