    epitaphLook up epitaph at Dictionary.com
1387, from O.Fr. epitaphe, from L. epitaphium "funeral oration, eulogy," from Gk. epitaphion, neut. of epitaphos "of a funeral," from epi- "at, over" + taphos "tomb, funeral rites." http://www.etymonline.com/index.php

ever think about what yours might be?
google famous epitaphs to see some
clever, some pithy, some noble words carved in stone.....

    mel blanc's "that's all folks"

edgar allen poe's 'Quoth the raven "Nevermore" '

Simonides wrote the famous lines about
    the Spartan rearguard under Leonidas
who held the pass of Thermopylae
against the Persians in 480 BC.
One translation of Simonides' epitaph runs thus:-

Tell it in Sparta, thou that passes by
Here, faithful to her charge, her soldiers lie

no one in my family will consider
anything but cremation so there will
not be a "final resting place" for me

but i had once upon a time decided on an epitaph.....

"If you have come here to mourn,
you did not know me very well."

I have a plot picked out in a cemetary that doesn't allow headstones, only brass plates flat on the ground so the ride on lawn mower can drive right over it. hehe

If I could have an epitaph it would be a line from a Bon Jovi song called Blaze of Glory.

"They say when your brought into this world your born in sin; well that's something they gave me I didn't have to steal or win".

Same with me...no final resting place.

My last wishes are very simple. I want the song "Imagine" to be played while my ashes are scattered in water. And from there, I will know where to go

But if i had to think of an epitaph, it would be "Imagine..."

on my head stone i want:

mourn not for me for family dear,

I am not dead but sleeping here.

As I am now, so you shall be.

    Prepare yourself to follow me.

When I was a teen I saw that on an old crumblinbg headstone from the seventeen hundreds. thought it was beautful. still do.

Mad, bad, & dangerous to know.

I insist on the ampersand rather than spelling and out. More accurately reflects my lazy character.

Before I quit drinking I would have wanted "his last words were 'hold my beer and watch this.'"

I'm all for the cremation tip. My only request is, for my close friends to throw handfuls of me at people I didn't like.
