I'm just about to buy a CD or two for a born-in relative of mine. He's expecting the CD's to be delivered to him.

Do any of you have recommendations of music which might be good for a born-in to hear? Something which promotes open-mindedness or similar, and is not too blunt so as to be viewed as completely anti.

He particularly likes rock and electronic, but has a fairly varied taste. Thanks.

    New Radicals.

I think the song writer is either a former JW or was raised around the lie.

One of their songs is called:

"Jehovah Made This Whole Joint for You."

    Hmmm.

JW Mom might give it the heave-ho just for that.

    Lemme think a bit more.

He likes rock, does he? Hmm, how about some Lamb of God, Testament or Ministry? ;)

Heck you could probably sneak these album covers into bethel in plain sight!

(Note: these MUST be listened to on a good stereo system at very high volume. When your ears start bleeding turn it down one notch and that's the acceptable volume.)

    Void! I love Deep Forest!

How about Temple of the Dog. Or Badmotorfinger by Soundgarden.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I will look those up.

I should clarify that I'd like this music to subtley promote the right messages which might help a youngish unbaptised publisher who lives at home with Mum and Dad use his mind to set himself free. So any very subversive/heavy/dark/"demonic" stuff is obviously out, as is obvious promotion of "loose" morals. I guess you guys know what I'm getting at...

    Sublte and thought provoking.

Then you're fighting a lost cause. It's only by planting the seeds of outright REBELLION that he's going to have a running shot at escape.

Give that kid some metal, dammit! When he see it confiscated he'll start to wonder why. Oh yeah, make sure to give him a good set of noise-canceling headphones too so he can listen to it as much as possible before it gets binned. There's nothing like the power of heavy metal to rouse the heart of a young man.

Hehe, I sound like a stereotypical internet apostate. They could use this post at a convention. ;)

(edit) I just thought of an even better idea, get him Guitar Hero II and III for xbox360 or Playstation, those are loaded with awesome metal and they're "radio edits" to make them pass the "E" for everyone family rating. Plus there's a Guitar Hero: Metallica pack coming out soon.

Well he plays violent games. I can't go too far with the "unsuitable" music just yet. ;)

    1. Purchase music as described above.

    2. Copy it to a blank CD.

    3. Write "2008 District Convention" on the CD.

Can't go far wrong with a bit of Deep Purple, its not obviously demonistic like Black Sabbath or the like, and is reasonably melodic enough to lull parents.

Can recommend 'Machine Head' or 'Stormbringer' or 'Rapture of the Deep'. Or send him some Pink Floyd or Hawkwind....mind blowing stuff, especially through headphones.

Or just plain old kick ass rock n roll of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Let us know what you get him.
