When Does Dependency Become Unhealthy?

I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. I've needed people often in the past when I was a JW, and mostly been ridiculed rather than helped. Now I'd rather die than ask anyone for anything. My "independence" could be considered unhealthy, because, with a few exceptions, I don't want people in my life at all.

    Hi H40

The definitions you cited are very useful as a barometer of where we are in a relationship with anyone but particularly in marriage. We should be able expess ourseleves without fear of the other person shutting down.Healthy relationships thrive on trying to understand and be understood

Spoken like a true bird freak! I often prefer the company of parrots to that of people. Parrots never lie, cheat, or steal (except for a bite of pizza now and then). They never hide what they're feeling, even when it results in a bloody bite when they're angry. They're honest about everything.

Absolutely. My bird only wants the cheese off my pizza though. He won't touch the crust. Bugger.

I guess I have been considered too independant many a time..I like to figure things out on my own first...it that don't work

then I may ask someone I really trust..Which is a hard feat...

I always wanted a parot....if I could spell it first....but the thing is now it would probably out live me....So does yours know swear words....lol

You are excessively dependent on another being when you cannot make a step without that being telling you what to do. And this goes for the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger, which prohibits independent judgment of any kind--forcing those under it to become excessively dependent on them.

White Dove- that can be good and bad I guess.

Confession- Thanks for your input I appreciate it, it made me look for more info, I'm not always good at explaining what I mean.

Witness 007- don't laugh that happened in my first marriage..explaining I was just going for a leak...

Flipper- its a fine balancing act isn't it "To give and Receive"....by the way maybe it is your Ex...she is American...tee hee hee

Finally free- people can be such b##tards then it is hard to even want to open your mouth.

David- shutting down is often easy to do if you can not express your feelings...takes work imo

Parakeet- pets are loving all the time, they love you no matter what mood you're in.

Wt Wizard- not making a step...been there at one time.

Jk666- I thought about this comment all night.. It is easy to do.. perhaps more than one would realise..

Thanks everyone you gave me lots to think about.

    Cheers!

that may sound like an easy enough answer....but I would venture to say that the person would

not know they are dependant...therefore not have a clue it started.
