Do You Think Jehovah's Witnesses Are Truly Happy?

I think they spend a lot of time trying to convince themselves that they are happy. I never felt like I was good enough, yet I claimed to be happy.

JWs are slaves, emotionally and mentally, to the WTS. Last I heard, slavery is not a path to happiness.

Hi All My response to this question, Being an ex bible student for 7 months, I was in a very depressed way. Anyone can make a JW cry through a normal conversation. Even if they see violence can set them off on to a depressed way or if people make fun of them or the religion as this is what I did experience in the past also made me go tearful at work. Basically they have very sensitive emotions. My opinions to this questions They are truly unhappy but are hiding it. If a witness was to be disfellowshipped or disassociate this can bring on a post cult trauma syndrome and a nervous breakdown which can lead to a lot of mental problems in the witnesses. From my experience in a normal conversation about sex and pornography as I was involved with the cult I was not allowing to be talked about in my presence where I cut it out of life. The person next to me was giving me a lecture about this type of thing is harmless and needs to be done when it comes to masterbation, where I was refusing this talk I went very tearful just talking about this sort of thing. Being alone cutting away from non-cult members made me cry for no reasons ended up writing the documents on what is going on and get it out of the system as there was something bothering me. When I did leave the watchtower society after hearing of Emma Gough who is A JW mother of twins that died in 2007 for refusing blood which also upset me too and made me angry which got me to pull out my friend from the cult but he stayed. My friend knew or seen how shocked I was at this time. After all the bothering from the witnesses cos I didnt want anymore do with them nearly made me go very violent towards them that is when I did see a counseller. Hence they are not allowed to knock on my door again or I will report them to the police for harrassment or have a go at them with a few swear words. They are not happy even though they seem or look happy.

They believe that true happiness is only to be had in the future "New System", so I guess, by their own beliefs, no.

Of course some are truly happy, but there are people who are truly happy through out the world, no matter what affiliation they may belong to. Hell, there were people who were truly happy under the 3rd reich.

I guess the question is, what makes a devoute jw truly happy? The association? The years of routine and being told how to think? The hope of living forever and seeing loved ones even though several generations have passed being told the same thing? I have met people who were and are still truly happy as JWs as well some who are depressed and suicidal. ( 2 cases of sucides in one CONGO within 5 years in my area)

    "Happiest people on earth"

That's what God's Speshul Mouthpiece keeps telling them.

No,..... they are miserable people waiting to die. Following are quotes from my happy witness family!!

    Quotes from 3rd generation JWs:

"This is not the real life, I am just waiting for the next!"

"I just want to die and wake up in Paradise"

"I just want to fall asleep and die"

"When is this going to be over?"

"Life sucks and then you die"

"I wish I could just fall asleep and die!"

    "Please just let me die!"

"I don't want to live in this world anymore!"

"I"m ready to die......why does Jehovah let me keep living?"

I've heard these words over and over from my parents since I was little.......sounds real happy doesn't it?

No that mind controlled grin that you see them with at the hall is just that, not to mention the sad fact that as a group have a higher rate of suicide

and a very many of them are on meds to cope in their day today life and many are abusers of booze, the approved substance of choice.

absolutely not. as a jw, you are taught that the whole world is against you. this makes you suspicious, unfriendly and paranoid towards anyone who is not a sister or brother. every aspect of your thinking and feeling is controlled.............how can anyone who is following the WTS direction/rhetoric fully be happy? I did and I wasn't. It has taken me 10 years to get to a point where my thinking is truly my own............unfettered by WTSpeak, for the most part, unless i find myself in a situation where i have actual WTS or JW connections. i am the happiest in my outlook on life than i ever was in my 25 years as an active jw (20 years spent as an elder's wife) my mental health has IMPROVED since i left the JW's. imo, it is because as a jw you are forced into a mold of control, which is totally unnatural to our soul/spirit.

Would truly happy people need to be told that they are happy and are the happiest people on earth?

Would they need to be reminded of this fact over and over again?

I was not happy and was on a quest for happiness, but no matter what I did, it eluded me.

I could not find one scrap of happiness doing everything they told me to do that would produce this so called happiness and joy.
