A post triggered this memory for me and perhaps for you. I don't know if this was widespread or a local thing.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the president of the United States... He was also Catholic in faith. It was wide believed at the time and in our location that HE would institute programs against the WTBTS that (could) leave to Armageddon. Any body remember this BS from the 1960's?
I was seven when JFK was assasinated. I wouldn't have heard anything like that back then.
I am from Massachusttes and I have been following the Kennedy family history. Still I have not heard anything like that.
I wasn't alive then either. A lot of people thought Slick Willie would bring it on. Now it's either Slick Willie's wife or Obama.
yes, I remember it was seriously discussed that electing a Catholic to the presidency would surely lead to armageddon. Then his assassination would surely lead to armageddon. Nixon's resignation, surely that would lead to armageddon. Taiwan getting kicked out of the UN and communist China becoming a member overnight - surely would lead to armageddon. Earthquakes, tsunamis, famines, wars, surely each one of them was the beginning of armageddon. Booooooring.
I would seriously like someone to do a study of the amount of stress hormones circulating in the average JW - it can't be good for you to be always on the edge of disaster.

Hortensia... I think you called it. Almost any global event will lead to a high case of Armageddon fervor. I think it happens more with older dubs since they grew up believing that they would never die.
For many of those the clock has almost run out. They don't seem to have the same enthusiasm for the resurrection hope...Wonder why..
I remember the special Watchtower and Awake attacking the catholic church ,it came out just before the American election in which JFK won.I had only just started going to the meetings and was in my late teens .I asked a brother why the special mags and he told me it was because of the catholic JFK and how if he got elected he would shut down the Watchtower Organisation.The witlesses were always coming up with fairy stories like that.I do remember wondering if it would affect the outcome of the election.
I was very young and had never heard of witnesses. Good times!
If Obama gets elected it will bring armageddon, remember kids you heard it here first!
