I need to listen to some new music. Got the idea from Nathan Natas's thread. what CD should I get if I want to listen to K.D. Lang? What about listening to some Leonard Cohen, sung by different artists. I checked out some on youtube, and I get the feeling he is like Bob Dylan - writes great songs but other people perform them better. If I liked Bob Dylan and the Band, and Phil Ochs, that kind of thing, what would you recommend for me? I miss the folk songs and anti-war songs of the 1960s and 1970s. I missed a lot of them then, too, being a JW of course. But I was a closet rebel and liked the whole rebellious music scene. Am I betraying my age?
recommendations, please

There is a Leonard Cohen tribute album called "I'm Your Fan" featuring Cohen's songs covered by such bands & artists as:
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
R.E.M.
Lloyd Cole
John Kale does a great rendition of "Hallelujah".
Just to name a few.
One of my favorite Cohen songs, Everybody Knows, is covered by Concrete Blonde on the Pump Up The Volume soundtrack.

Go here: http://www.pandora.com/
and type in your favorite artists, one at a time. Pandora plays things that are similar to their works, so you can be exposed to new stuff you might never hear on the corporate radio stations. It is completely free, and it is awesome.
Have fun. -

I am a true Dylanist, so I love everything he does. From guitar and harp to the turn of a phrase. I find his voice poetic and moving. Sorry to hear you think others do his songs better. You should try 'Time Out Of Mind', the lyrics are amazing.
I loved his early stuff but just like us, he is getting better with age.

I was into the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s and in the 90s I felt pop and rock music was changing, becoming very unlikable for me. I switched to country music when I went dancing with a group at a country dance hall. Country music at the time was changing and I liked the newer country music. Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw and Brooks and Dunn and it just kept getting better.
Music albums usually have one or two good songs on them, so I search for a greatest hits album, it will most likely have more songs on it that I like.
