Now, for someone who thinks that being partially Socialist, partially Republican, partially Democrat or partially pregnant is a poistion to argue ANYTHING from, I must point out that once again you have shot your foot.

What I cannot seem to get through to you is that calling someone a Socialist is not a sin, neither is being a socialist a sin. I do not believe in the club or the mob mentaility, especially the political ones. That is why I am so critical of US politics as whole (read - both Democrat and Republican).
I merely responded because your description, and that of Journey On is not accurate, that is all. I would expect the same reaction if I called you...lets see....reasoned. ;)

I cannot understand why Socialism is so frightening to the US.
I think a deeply rooted confusion between international and national socialism, and a deeply irrational hatred towards communism mixed with an assumed link between socialism and atheism as anti-Christ may be at work here .
These rights were of course fought against with fury by the Republican thinking that developed from the Pioneer mentality of the old guard, but justice prevailed and now people like Burn can benefit from the spilled blood of the true heroes of the US political scene. ;)

The "Pioneer mentality" of the old guard - democratic capitalism - made possible the innovative technology from which we are the beneficiaries, Hillary-Step included.
I like the fact that the US Government has seen fit to implement and administer so many social reforms. What I do not like is the fact that so many of us are expecting the government to take care of us from the cradle to the grave.
To quote loosely the late, great Carl Sagan, "We have grown fat and lazy and careless."
