okay, it is like this... I have a friend who's belief is so strong in the Watchtower. They have missed "several" (Three) meetings. They said they do not want to get into trouble for missing so many.

Who would they get into trouble with? God does not mind when you study his word, he just wants you do it.

Then they made a comment of they shouldn't miss meetings any more meetings "especially with the end so near"

    What the heck!?!

The end has been sooo near for so long. When are they going to realize that they should study Gods word for what it is, live their life. I would rather enjoy God's word, know that I am studying and taking it for what it is worth. I'm also still able to enjoy the life that God provided me with.

This is what I need to get my friend to see too. But they have been trapped for so long. I'm really scared that they are going to get their children pulled into this too. They children are so fragile right now. They do not know better. Ideas?

    Why are they missing meetings?

Whatever the reason, it's valid. Support them in their decision to take care of themselves in whatever way they are doing it.

If they are not at meetings, they are probably taking a rest, rejuvenating, working, caring for ill children/parents/selves.

Whatever the reason, encourage that specific behavior and activity. It *is* important. And if you let them know that it helps prevent burnout, they will not feel so guilty the next time the feel the urge to miss again.

Missing meetings is a sign of someone finding the importance of balance and 'normalcy' - what ever that is!!

    Yes??

Sounds like your friend is still communicating with you, so thats good.

I've heard a few comments recently that the JWs are suggesting that armageddon is particularly close - that this is why Jehovah arranged for the two different magazines and other changes in the organisation. Of course this is the age old strategy that the borg uses to keep everyone on their toes.

With die hards like this your only hope is to offer little bits of evidence and nothing too offensive. If they express their own disagreements with any doctrines, you can embellish that a bit and use it as a way to show them more about problems in the org.

    Good luck!

Hmmm... how do you help someone who has blinders on? That's a tough one we've been working with on the forum for a while.

The only thing I can think of is just be yourself, showing your friend that life outside JW-land can be happy, productive and you can even show "love of neighbor" while not being a JW. The example may be your best anti-witness.

The continued false sense of urgency ties into the control the organization wants to maintain. Loyalty to the organization - the #1 doctrine of the WT Society. The best way to keep them loyal is to keep them lapping up your spiritual milk (skim though it is).

Maybe others who have helped their friends to see the danger of the JW religion can chime in with more specific help.

They have been taking care of family, yet they feel guilty for not going to the meetings.

I think it is wonderful that they are still in communication with me. I don't know what I would do if they were not, and for my family that would suck if they ever stopped having anything to do with me for trying to save them.

Oh, really? What kinds of comments? Do you have paraphrases or exact quotes of what was said to give this idea? I am currious.

Loyalty to the organization is all I see from those I know in the organization. Aside from them going to the meetings, I do not see them reading the Bible. I cannot even read the Bible around them because I'm afraid/embarassed. I don't want them to approach me and say that I'm doing it all wrong. I've made notes in my Bible (during my own study's) of what the verse means to me, not in a way that seems like I am trying to make my own interpertation, but just my own feelings of it. I do have an idea though, to leave it setting out one day, to see if they pick it up and kinda read my notes. But then again, they might not touch it because it is not a NWT.. it is a NKJV.

Would it be wise or a good idea to leave it out so they stumble on it some day?

If there are any here, please share your experience and ways that worked for you!

That is all for now. Thanks for your advise.. Please take a look at my responses. Thanks again.

Jw's love to use the guilt trip. When I was still attending there was always the nosey elder and the elders'wife. If I missed a meeting they would always approach me and ask Why. I started to duck and run after a while when I saw them coming so they changed tactices and began calling on the phone. I was so glad when we got caller ID

When I was a JW, I didn't mind if someone had a different translation. Actually, I was impressed with anyone who took their Bible seriously. We'd just read verses out of both translations, or just theirs, and talk about it.

I've seen many NWT and not one has even an underline in it let alone notes written in it.

Gary has an acquaintance who is still JW. This guy told Gary that the new arrangement with the magazines was "gearing up towards the end" and "everything is changing" in the organisation. Therefore there is lots of speculation that these changes herald the big A coming.

I am VERY curious as to what these changes in the organization are. Maybe I can find out before my friends and family members do!
