Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

When I was a little kid, that's what I prayed at bedtime.

Bless O Lord this food to our use
    And us to thy service.
Make us ever mindful of the needs
Of others. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Before meals I prayed the above.

Obviously, I wasn't a JW at that tender and vulnerable stage of early life. Little could I imagine the necessity of praying for the Governing Body and the worldwide brotherhood ...

Did you have your own private prayers when you were a child?

    Like this one?

    "Dear Satan,
Please help me to escape the effect of religion!"

I prayed for peace of mind.

I prayed for everything to get better.

I'm closer than ever to both.

So when I read that thread heading I thought of Metallicas' Enter Sandman song.

Now I lay me down to sleep
Pray the lord my soul to keep
If I die before I wake
Pray the lord my soul to take

Hush little baby, dont say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
Its just the beast under your bed,
In your closet, in your head

    Exit light
    Enter night
    Grain of sand

    Say your prayers little one
    Dont forget, my son
    To include everyone

    Tuck you in, warm within
    Keep you free from sin
    Till the sandman he comes

    Sleep with one eye open
    Gripping your pillow tight

    Exit light
    Enter night
    Take my hand
    Off to never never land

Does this count as a prayer?

    Good night, sleep tight,
Don't let the bed bugs bite.
    If they do
    Take a shoe
    And squish 'em all
    Against the wall.

I seem to recall my family saying this to each other at night sometimes when we were young.

we said this version of grace before meals>>>

    bless us, o lord

    and these thy gifts,

    which we are about

    to receive, through

    the bountiful hand

    of christ our lord.

    amen

    i graduated to this one>>>>

    take and eat,

    in determination

    and gladness,

    so that you,

    in the same manner,

    may give lovingly

    to others. amen.

I always prayed for new parents, of the Catholic type.

Never thought to put it into rhyme, maybe that would have done the trick.

If there is anything to wake up for when you close your eyes, no matter what you just did, life is usually good!

I forgot that feeling some years ago after doing it purely 100% for my kids, since I gave up on me for about 18 years, when a 5 month high came along after I divorced aged about 40 (just starting to feel glad to be me on more mornings than I'd ever done since my teens!) before life changed again and it hasn't returned.

I'm pretty sure it is gone!

Interesting truth but can't imagine it returning!

Maybe that's a place others struggle to find!

Who knows? After years of it how to escape it?
