The guiding star over Jesus was controlled by Satan?

The reason given for the Maggis' retreat and not telling Harrod about Jesus was that an Angel appeared before them and warned them of catastrophies that would befall them if they told Harrod so they left for another place and never returned to Harrod. If they returned to Harrod without telling him about where Jesus was, he would kill them. Damned if they did, damned if they didn't.

Yup that is the JWs' take on it - yet funily enough the magi were astrologers - or would have to have been as they studied the stars and read into all sort of heavenly things and that is why they followed the star, because they "felt" it was leading them to something great - The angel then appears to tell them what Herods true intentions were, thus they didn't return to him.

    Where was my star?

Yep, that's what I was taught. It was also in the 'My Book Of Bible Stories' as I recall. I always wondered why didn't god stop satan from making that star glow? Pretty neglectful parent if you ask me...
