if he has been convicted of child abuse and doing a prison sentence , would she tell any newly interested ones where her husband was? or would elders tell her to say he was"working away" or to avoid answering so as not to "stumble" new ones ? she is supporting him as far as i know . he was not disfellowshipped for the child abuse by the way., that was only worthy of a reproof.

Most elders are very careful in advising someone to divorce a mate.

Most of the time elders will leave it up to a mate to make a final decision whether to stay or leave, of course there are many idiots as elders that have made decisions for them.

The watchtower though has written enough unbiblical information for couples to use in order to break up a marriage

such as " spiritual endangerment ".

Many have left their mates, especially wives leaving their husbands for that very reason.

I just wanted to add that I am appalled that someone going to prison for child abuse only gets a public reproof.

Forget what the WTBTS tells you. I'm telling you to get a divorce. Your husband is in prison for molesting one (or more?) children? Get a divorce and move on.

According to the wts ,the only grounds for scriptural divorce (free to remarry) that the wts recognizes is for porneia. If the child abuse that you mention falls within the wts definition for porneia then it meets wts requiremenst for scriptural divorce.

WTS or its agents CANNOT advise any individual to divorce for any reason whatsoever as far as I know. That is a personal decision and the wts will not meddle, however, the wts WILL tell you that you do not qualify to get a scriptural divorce and if you reject such counsel and remmary you may get df.

Regarding what to tell others about your mates sins or crimes, that is up to you, the wts may revoke your "privilidges" if they feel that you are bringing reproach on the cong or on the wts. Wise to keep private info to yourself.

The wts is also loyal and supportive to any active member, no matter how vile and dispicable that memeber has been. If such has been deemed repentant or weak, the wts ussually does not abandon such person seeking wts help.

Therefore does child abuse constitute pornea? If the abuser did not pass that point of stimulation does this therefore mean that the partner cannot get a scriptural divorce?

Actually, a child molester has committed fornication (porneia) according to the definition of the WTS so the wife could get a "scriptural" divorce. Officially, elders aren't supposed to encourage anyone to get a divorce or to "forgive" and stay with the spouse, but I know some do involve themselves in people's lives this way.

They can and do use the 'your conscience may tell you to .......' as they do in spiritual endangerment situations. How does this compute to a jw? The elders told me to, my conscience must match theirs. Until someone reminds them of their promise & vows before God then they live in limbo land not knowing what to do. In the case of a pedophile I believe if the guy was a jw and cried enough in front of the elders about it, the elders would suggest she be forgiving towards him because he is so repentent.

In short, spiritual endangerment- get a divorce, pedophilia- no divorce if he is a jw.
