He that guesses were the Dow Jones falls to by the time Bush leaves office without going under wins.
I say it falls to 8,500
If it falls below that I lose.
What is your bet?

Is this the bottom or the level it will be at when he leaves?

I have enough tied up that I'd hate to bet against myself. I would like to see a correction and nice rebound after the next US elections

The bottom which will most likely be the day he leaves if he is replaced by another president like him. As a another poster said money hates a moron. Clinton started at 3000 and left 10,000. Bush started a 10,000 and barely made it 14,900.
I'm hoping for a recovery of financial sector stocks later this year. There is still opportunity to make money, even in a bear market. And the Fed is talking like they are going to aggressively ease the money supply. We will see what Helicopter Ben conjures up. The bet is a 50bps reduction at the next FOMC meeting.
The weakening Dollar has acted as a disincentive for foreign investment in US debt and financial instruments. The steady bleed of value in the currency eats into the profits of foreign investors, Europe being the most notable example. Overseas markets have been strong and that is where the money has tended to flow. Still, I see a lot of coupling between the US downturn and what is happening on a global scale. I expect we are shortly to enter recession domestically (indeed if it is not already the case) this will turn into a global problem and the comparative disadvantage between US equities markets and those abroad will shrink. The bright spot of a weaker currency is export growth.

5G0,
Just how much of an influence do you think a president has over the economic environment?
The answer is less than you think.

Not much himself but the people he appoints do and Bush is batting a thousand in cronyism.
Cronyism is partiality to long-standing friends, especially by appointing them to positions of authority, regardless of their qualifications. Hence, cronyism is contrary in practice and principle to meritocracy.Cronyism is partiality to long-standing friends, especially by appointing them to positions of authority, regardless of their qualifications. I am glad you now know what cronyism means. I am sad that you think it is exclusive to the current Administration. Hillary Clinton in charge of Health Care or Bobby Kennedy as Attorney General snap immediately to mind. Or what about Harry and Linda Thomason and Web Hubbell? What about Sandy Berger-I mean Burglar? He is an official Clinton advisor in the current campaign despite his theft and destruction of important documents.
Clinton inherited a decade of peace brought about by the end of the Cold War. Bush got 9-11 a few months in and the hangover of the tech bubble. There is a big difference between the two environments.I am glad you now know what cronyism means. I am sad that you think it is exclusive to the current Administration.
